Apparently a fire started in the basement of one of the buildings on Monmouth between 3rd and 4th and sadly spread to possibly three of the homes in the rear. No one seriously hurt thankfully but a firefighter that was fighting the fire at Moloney's came down to help Monmouth and his oxygen tank ran out so he was taken to the hospital.

Strange week with DeCarlos (same block) having a car run right into his shop the other day!

Stopped in this morning. The only casualty suffered by Maloney's was a smoked ham that was left in the oven, when Maloney's was ordered to evacuate.

It was 'extra crispy' by the time they got back into the store to turn off the oven.

Bet they are running a sale on "smoked" meats.

There was definitly another fire about 5:15pm around Newark Ave. and 2nd street. I was driving up 2nd Street and a cop car was blocking it off about a block or 2 before Newark and there was smoke filling the streets. Then they blocked off Newark Ave going up towards Palisade Ave. Unfortunately, i could smell the smoke a quarter mile away before I even heard any fire trucks comimg...

Hope all are OK and Maloney's is able to remain opened unhindered.

Hi - yes - but they are a few blocks east of the Fire House by Newark and third - lots of trucks and hoses and water -- they are also on 4th street toward Monmouth - again trucks ladders and hoses...

I see there was a fire up Newark Ave (629 - 631 Newark Avenue -- a pair of attached three-story buildings that house a meat market and a Domino's pizza) -- But the fire trucks are also on Newark between 3rd & 4th Street - what is going on there? That is many blocks away from the other area.
