NJ Advance Media for NJ.com WASHINGTON -- New Jersey won its long battle for sports betting Monday when the U.S. Supreme Court threw out a federal ban that has lasted for more than a quarter century. "The legalization of sports gambling requires an important policy choice, but the choice is not ours to make," Justice Samuel Alito, a New Jersey native, said in the opinion of the court. Chris Christie as the lead plaintiff when he became governor in January, welcomed the ruling. "I am thrilled to see the Supreme Court finally side with New Jersey and strike down the arbitrary ban on sports betting imposed by Congress decades ago," Murphy said. "I look forward to working with the legislature to enact a law authorizing and regulating sports betting in the very near future." More
