Have you been to New Thanh Hoai on Erie & 10th? If so what's your opinion? I think it's better than the ones on Baxter st.

Nana Thai is very good. It's somewhat shocking that it's not as packed as should be. My guess is Central Ave is more catored towards Latin food. In fact, when Nana first opened, they had a duo menu of Thai and Spanish food. I came from Oregon, and go figure, one of the best Thai restaurants I've tried was in Eugene, OR. The Vietnamese food however, is kick-ass in Portland. The onesin China Town, NYC pale in comparison.

Another Up Vote for Nana Thai on Central Ave.
They make a traditional southern dish called Kua King. It's not on the menu, but they will make it with pork or chicken if you ask. Very spicy.... This is not Nana's version, but is typical of what the dish looks like:

Mmmm, looks good, making my mouth water. Maybe I'll raid my stash of MAMA brand Shrimp flavor Tom Yum ramen. Thin sliced onions, an egg, and fresh cilantro make it shine. Best soup is the one you've got in front of you...

From :Nana Thai on Central Ave
Gang Paa Curry (Jungle Curry) - One of the spiciest southern Thai curries.
Food is worth a try and they will accommodate dishes not on the menu like "Pad Sator"

My wife likes Isaan (eastern region of Thailand) food, which tends to be too spicy for many Westerners. We generally go out for it as she doesn't know how to make it. There is a place in Manhattan she likes called 'Larb Ubol'. Another she heard is good is called 'Somtum Der' around Avenue A. Some of the best Thai food I got is when I went took her and her family to South Thailand. The family ordered traditional Southern Thai off the menu. Incredibly rich and spicy dishes. We also stopped at a place in Surat Thani that had incredible seafood.

Lucky you! My wife has tried but can't quite nail it. I think she's reluctant to use enough fish sauce and lime. I've nailed a great Thai recipe for steamed fish with cilantro, jalapeno, garlic, ginger, fish sauce and lime. Just thinking of it makes my mouth water. Bad as some of the Thai is around here, it's better than most of the country. I had a Nur Yum in Oregon that was so pathetic. My gold standard was the place at Bayard & Baxter where it was real sliced steak.

I am lucky in this regard. If I want authentic Thai food I just let my wife cook. She makes a really good Pad Thai and fried pork belly.

I hope so it's authentic, because my biggest gripe with Hoboken/jerseycity area is the lacking of Authentic Thai Food.
