there's a difference between being stationed at a corner and actually doing something, the cops at Marin and Columbus rarely stop their conversation and actually enter the roadway to enforce the "No left except Buses" and routinely let the box get jammed up with traffic.

Well, they definitely weren't there yesterday. I moved to the corner of 9th and Manila. Yesterday, I was about to start walking across Manila on my way home from the mall and a car with NY plates came whizzing down and didn't even pause at the stop sign. I'm always wary of this intersection, especially at night. The need more enforcement there. Also, there's a lot of people that get out of the Holland Tunnel or off the Turnpike and use Manila/Grove as a highway to downtown. They need signs reminding drivers that they are entering a residential neighborhood, speed bumps, and sensors that show the drivers' speed.

Why, of all people, would "JerseyMom" tip people off? Horrible drivers need to pay the price. Literally.

Stationed in Greenville, and on priority calls there as well.

They should start catching the jerks who run the stop sign on 2nd and Brunswick at 40-50mph

people fly thru that light daily. What drives me crazy as a pedestrian is that the crosswalk signals are not synchronized with the traffic lights so if you are walking north on Varick where it switches to Coles you have NO way of knowing if you can cross unless you got there before the light change and pushed the crosswalk button. It is disgraceful that JC can't synchronize crosswalks like every other first world city does...

here's a heads up: Be careful out there.
I almost got hit last night, along with a driver making a legal right turn on CC and Varick by a driver running a red light doing at least 40.

With all the complaints and comments about people running stop signs, red lights and people using phones while driving on JClist, we now have a 'heads-up' about police doing exactly what many hoped for; enforcement blitz.

It would have been better if we kept quiet and those that breach the laws be caught out, and hopefully change their ways with a hefty penalty. I'm betting it's locals that flaunt the rules more so then visitors to the area.

heads ups don't help here. People getting hit hard in the wallet does.

The free for all culture on JC roads needs to end...

This is great news. There needs to be more of this. I thought I saw something similar a week or two ago on Marin/Columbus, where everyone makes the left turn onto Marin when only buses are supposed to.

I've never been almost hit as a pedestrian so many times in my life as the past year of living in JC.

Also agree that warnings are not necessary; people will pay attention to traffic laws when it hits them in the wallet. I would even support double fines (like in the 65 zone, etc) in the downtown area since it is so densely populated with many pedestrians.

the cops placed daily at the corner of Columbus/Marin are a sad joke, they never bother to enforce the "no left turn except buses". As a result, I no longer bike west on Columbus coming from Exchange Place because I've nearly been hit mult times right in front of said cops with little reaction besides a shrug from them.

why on Earth would you want to warn people of this crackdown, I want people to feel it in their wallet when they get busted for driving like a Masshole

If you warn people, they will driver safer overall. That's more important than nailing them with a ticket once.
