I fully expect lots of neighborhood residents to come out against this project, some (most?) solely based on the lack of 1:1 parking. And, there will likely be opposition from the VVP people who oppose anything that in their view could bring more traffic to JC, as they seem to think those streets around the park are for their exclusive use and enjoyment.

This doesn't fall under any of their territories - are they even in a position to rally the city to block this?

It blows my mind that those people would rather we have a polluted minefield than something useful that will lower all our tax burdens, but hey, I'm not a NIMBY.

You must have missed all the ruckus from the DT NAs advocating against this bridge. It all boils down to "we don't want traffic on OUR streets" but they are OK with BeLa shouldering all of the existing traffic. Now, I am not naive enough to think the bridge will lower the amount of traffic on BeLa streets (Brewster explained it brilliantly with the pool and drainage holes analogy) but don't kid yourself: the VVP NA is 100% against the bridge, and they have been vocal about it.

So? I think that once Fulop read the tea leaves and saw his voters were going to reject the casino he lost a bit of interest. With the LSC project rolling now, and this, figure for sure it's a done deal. No one would want to drive from downtown to Grand/Pacific/Johnston to Phillips . . . when they can zip right down Jersey Avenue in a fraction of the time. (But the HBLR Jersey Avenue crossing tracks will be the worlds best speed bumps, no?)

Even if the article is outdated, I think the momentum is there to make the bridge a reality. Notwithstanding the opposition from downtown NAs, the bridge will likely happen, particularly because there is all that additional development happening on the North side (the hotel development is happening, and the entirety of the redevelopment of the area around Liberty Harbor) so I think it is safe to assume it is only a matter of time (two years?)

Without Jersey Avenue extension this development will jam up everything. Where are they with that?

I'm sure it's a done deal, between this project and the LSC proposal. But as many have noted, many of the new residents will use the Light Rail station steps away-the HBLR will need to figure out how to handle the influx.

Hell, maybe the developer agreed to pay for the extension in exchange for zoning?

I think it's mostly funded already.

Huh - Russians plus an opaque LLC. Would be interesting to know (especially in a mayoral election year) who the LLC is and what zoning changes/upsizing has occurred...

Mega development proposed for land near Liberty State Park

A developer who purchased 7.5 acres of vacant land on the Jersey City waterfront for $34.75 million two years ago has proposed a 2,150-unit residential complex, according to documents filed with the city.

The development, which has been named Liberty View, would be located in Johnston Avenue next to Liberty State Park, and would include 50,000 square feet of retail space and 860 parking spaces.
