The storm looks like a regular old Nor'Easter... unless you are in a flood prone area or got a beach house, it doesn't look that bad.

Latest model run (4:25 PM) from GFS, which is having the storm track farther West than the previous model run. This means more wind & waves for the Jersey shore. Previous run hammered the South Shore of Long Island more.

Wind predictions (10 meters in elevation):

Snow (in case anyone here is headed to VT or NH for skiing this weekend:

In anticipation of a nor'easter that could bring wind gusts up to 60 miles per hours, numerous cancellations and closures across Hudson County have been announced to keep people indoors and safe.

Jersey City has canceled its garbage and recycling collection tonight for fear that more debris will end up in the street than on the trucks. Residents should place garbage and recycling out on their next scheduled date, city officials said.

Hudson County has closed all county parks as of 2 p.m., out of fear that trees could fall and injure a visitor.

All Jersey City Recreation Department programming scheduled for tonight is also canceled. The Jersey City, Hoboken and Kearny school districts have canceled all after-school activities, athletic events and/or practices scheduled for today.

The storm is expected to cause some flooding along the waterfront.

Jersey City DPW and MUA crews have been clearing catch basins and storm drains around the city and crews will be working into tonight to handle any issues that may arise from the storm, officials said.

All TSLC afterschool classes and adult pickup games scheduled for 180 9th Street and Primary Prep school have been cancelled for today.

A makeup class will be provided.

Be careful out there!

Local weather forecasters are calling for flooding in urban areas, particularly those with poor drainage. DTJC anyone!? Also, 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain, which I think is more or less the threshold when people start seeing water backing up into their basements in the DTJC area. Good luck to everyone, and I hope it goes well for all.

Anyone know if extra-curricular events such as soccer and tennis classes will be cancelled today?

Robin.

No need to be sarcastic about that... many people (myself included) find his weather related posts to be informative and even educational. Predicting weather is tough because, well... weather is largely unpredictable in its patterns and behaviors. Regardless, his posts are an attempt to do a solid one for his fellow neighbors by keeping them informed, so why crap all over that? I rather know about potential issues, than find myself scrambling at the last minute.

Tonight's garbage collection has been cancelled due to high winds: https://twitter.com/JC_Gov/status/823551191699390465

Potentially three inches of rain coming tonight - stay dry folks.
