if we treated every space of land where wars were fought in the revolution, we'd have precious little land to live and work on.
hell, how many graveyards of both natives and non have been dozed over to make way for 'progress'? utilizing a park - that is there with part of the purpose being to remember its history - for things other than simply its remembrance is what should be done.

That is hallow ground and should not be treated as a famers
market. The Battle of Paulus Hook was fought on August 19, 1779 between Continental Army and British forces in the American Revolutionary War. The Patriots were led by Major Light Horse Harry Lee, and launched a nighttime raid on the British-controlled fort in what is today downtown Jersey City. They surprised the British, taking 158 prisoners, and withdrew with the approach of daylight. Despite retaining the fort and its cannons, the British lost much of their control over New Jersey. Lee was rewarded by the Second Continental Congress with a gold medal, the only non-general to receive such an award during the war. That battle took place on the grounds of that park.

It is being rebuilt based on community input. The timeline to break ground is targeted for September. It will include all four corners.

What is going on with Paulus Hook Park on Washington and Grand? It's a strange park with most of it locked up so no one can use it except for some privileged few who seem to have keys to get into it. For the last few years, within the three sections of Paulus Hook Park, have been destroying the park by making it into a community garden and using it like their own back yard.
These raised beds, containers and barrels should be removed. It looks like the homeless are moving in. Looks like a garbage dump.
