This doesn't surprise me seeing how a lot of them seem to be hit or miss- it explains a lot. Savage Habbit does good work- they also have a great Instagram account that allows you to see the murals they are doing in other cities and all of them are fantastic.

I agree. I can also tell you that the official city program has novices with no experience choosing the artists that create the murals. They were given patronage jobs.
I've personally introduced internationally known artists to these two and cringed as they insulted him with their lack of respect and knowledge. It's the private collectives like Green Villain and Savage Habbit that are producing quality murals by selecting talented artists.

They need to give it a rest or be more selective. I hate trashing someone's art but when you put it on a building it kind of leaves me with no choice...this is hideous. Maybe it's a bad rendering? That building owner should be worried!

Back in 2015 when the Shepard Fairey mural was being discussed in a previous thread, JC123 wrote the following about the simplicity and beauty of a "plain" brick wall. I love this reply, because it really does speak to the beauty of buildings (especially older buildings) in how they exist and blend into the communities in which they stand.
I'm no fan of murals in general, and, IMHO, the Bowie piece is ruining another beautiful brick facade. Written by JC123 IMH(Unsolicited)O: In the early morning and late afternoon, seeing the sunlight hit the wall of the building where this latest mural is located was a simply lovely sight, especially on days when the sky was brilliantly blue. The sun's low, slanting rays made the wall "glow" against this azure backdrop and it was beautiful to behold, even though it was "only" a simple brick wall. But that was part of the wonder of it--the light made the plain wall a thing of beauty. Being someone who prefers to live in an urban environment I truly like looking at old brick walls/buildings. They are symbols of the age and history of a place, put there and maintained by workmen's hands so many years ago. I also love art, and I do like the mural that this artist did over by the tunnel. But I feel like the Grove Path Plaza mural is out of sync with that space. It feels predatory, and, at least for me, it has in fact drowned out/trampled the beauty of the former plain-old brick wall, especially when that low-angled sunlight would hit it just so.

Gadzooks, enough with the murals already. Every f'ing building looks like a high school art project. That's not to say there aren't some decent murals, but whoever controls the selection process has the discriminating taste of a mom putting her kid's drawing on the fridge.
Can't some of the well-built buildings exist on the strength of their architecture? Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown.

From Fulop's tweet: "building owner is timid"
Rightfully so.

Will David Bowie mural grace side of Jersey City building?
By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal on May 06, 2016 at 2:40 PM, updated May 06, 2016 at 6:06 PM JERSEY CITY ? Brazilian street artist Kobra is designing an enormous mural of David Bowie that would grace the side of a Jersey City building. Mayor Steve Fulop, who in 2013 implemented a mural program that has led to dozens of murals citywide, showed a rendering of the mural in a Twitter post this morning. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... b.html#incart_river_index
