How about raising the fine of $25, to $250, for littering, not picking up after your dog, and off leash dogs in public spaces while not in a dog run. And, then maybe enforcement for a change. I'm so tired of stepping in dog shit while mowing the lawns of VVP...give us a break please.

QUIET! Revamped Jersey City noise law up for final vote

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal
on May 06, 2016 at 1:23 PM, updated May 06, 2016 at 4:03 PM

JERSEY CITY ? A revamped measure targeting noise is up for final approval at next week's City Council meeting, one that would give a certified noise-control officer the authority to issue fines of up to $1,000 for violations.

The ordinance (Ord. 16.070) has been revised since it was first introduced in February by Councilman Rich Boggiano. The measure up for adoption Wednesday would retain 7 a.m. as the permitted construction start time on weekdays. The previous version proposed a start time of 8 a.m.

I'm certainly not against the spirit of the ordinance. However, good luck enforcing it most of the time.

This is just something for Boggiano to add to his list of accomplishments when he is conducting his reelection campaign. It will do nothing for the city.

I expect Historic Downtown, Journal Square, and even Mcginley Square to be a bit more noisy than the rest of the city. I wish Newport and the Water front had a little more energy lol.. Anyway, When you live on a cul de sac you experience less noise.

I think this ordinance is more for people who don't live in central areas of the city. Most of our noise comes from people talking loud on their cell phones, double parked honking cars, and occasional lawn mowers and slow blowers, these noises IMO or tolerable but sometimes they can get excessive, especially the honking car or car alarm.

My problem with this ordinance how would this be enforced, they continue to put things on the "book" but not much is enforced..

PS However they did finally start enforcing dog owners to pick up their poop :)

I'm glad to see Boggiano proposing something that would increase the quality of life in town. Its refreshing to see a City Council person trying to do something to make life better for the rest of us and it would be nice to see other councilpeople proposing things that were so obviously centered on improving quality of life. This is what I want from a City Council person.

Why are some people against having an ordinance on the books. If it was the mayor initiating this more would be on board. I know a few who live near the Hudson that are against those tourist helicopters propelling all that noise.

This ordinance will have zero effect on noise from helicopters, since they are up in the sky, where JC lacks any sort of jurisdiction and is therefore powerless to do anything about it.

As for other noises, this ordinance seems to be overreaching. As the article notes, even the noise level from a vacuum would be in violation! When is the next local election?? I hope Boggiano gets voted out by his constituents.

Hearing loss is caused by city's noise and loud music.
