Meet 40 Jersey City teachers who are making a difference
By Laura Herzog | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com on April 23, 2016 at 9:18 AM, updated April 23, 2016 at 10:52 AM JERSEY CITY ? Holly Smith, a language arts teacher from McNair Academic High School, also went to McNair Academic High School, graduating in 1995, when the graduating class was about half as big. On Friday, Smith was named the district's Teacher of the Year, during an annual award ceremony that is a bit of an Academy Awards luncheon for the district's educators. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... s.html#incart_river_index

I haven't taught in NYC, but I do teach and live in JCPS. Kids and teachers are great at my school. Quite a few of live locally. Admins though are thugs. And racist. It's an open secret that if you're not of a certain skin color (and no, it's not white), admins can and will make life difficult for you.

I have not been in both districts, but classroom management in JC is a constant battle. It depends on what school you teach in also and what part of town.

Most teachers dont post here because they dont live in Jersey City. They come here to make money and live where there are better school systems where their kids can get educated!

Attend the board of education meetings at School 11, you will find teachers there at the meetings, ask them these questions.

I'm wondering if there are any Jersey City Public School teachers that can give me insight on how teaching here compares to New York City.
I moved to JC last summer but held onto my job teaching in the Bronx. It makes sense to teach in Jersey City but I haven't heard great things about the school system. Anyone have experience teaching in both NYC and JC that can compare the two?
