The crime occurred on Feb 29, they asked for the public?s help in identifying the punk on March 9, arrested him on March 15, and announced it today.

It would have been nice to have informed the public or at least the people in the area where the crime occurred that the rapist/thief was off the streets.

Does anyone know (or can anyone speculate) why it would take so long to release the report of the arrest?

The "400 block" is west of Newark Avenue.

The highest building number in Hamilton Park is 350 Pavonia Avenue, which is at the corner of Pavonia and Brunswick. Where Pavonia "restarts" west of Newark Ave, the first building number is 445. There is no 400 Pavonia Ave, as far as I can tell. Therefore the "400 block" of Pavonia Avenue must be that block between Newark and Chestnut, or event he block west of Chestnut, beginning with 484 Pavonia.

According to the map provided in the JJ article it looks like the Island.

Seems that the CBS article has the area wrong. 400 Pavonia is down near Hamilton Park, but the other parts of both articles indicate it's on the other half of that avenue past Newark Ave. Hell, what's that neighborhood even called? Mill Creek? It's too far from JSQ for it to be labeled there...

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) ? Jersey City police are searching for a man they say viciously attacked and sexually assaulted a woman in her own home.

CBS2?s Ilana Gold reported the incident took place Monday at 3 a.m.

Police said the suspect was going to door-to-door on Paviona Avenue in the Hamilton Park area, touching the handles trying to get in.

When authorities responded, they found the 24-year-old victim screaming for help. They saw she was badly bruised and she told police she was physically and sexually assaulted.

TV 10/55?s Ilana Gold spoke exclusively with the victim?s roommate on Wednesday.

The terrified woman did not want to be identified after her roommate?s brutal attack.

?I was freaked out. I was so scared and right after the thing happened I couldn?t sleep,? she said.

The woman said she work up to the sound of the assault and other neighbors quickly called police.

?I was sleeping and I heard somebody was crying and yelling. I thought somebody was fighting upstairs,? she said.

When police arrived the suspect was gone, but the woman was severely injured.

?She had a bruise everywhere on her body, her stomach, her face, her eyes, and she has a huge bump on her forehead,? the roommate said.

Surveillance video shows the suspect was wearing a black leather jacket, a white-hooded sweatshirt and gloves.

The roommate said she always locks her bedroom door and believes it might have saved her from being attacked. The victim?s door was not locked.

?She didn?t lock the bedroom door. She didn?t lock the apartment door, and it was really easy for him to get inside of the building. The door was super easy to be opened, so he went directly into her room and did all the terrible things,? she said.

The roommate said she is now taking extra steps to stay safe.

?I?m getting pepper sprays and other self defense weapons to protect myself since I?m staying in that area, but I really hop the police can find him soon,? she said.

Police are warning the public to be on high alert.

?I guess now I?m going to be on the lookout, lock my doors,? one woman told CBS2.

The victim has since moved out of the building.

JERSEY CITY -- The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office has released surveillance video images and seeks the public's help in identifying a person of interest in a Jersey City sexual assault, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a press release today.

At about 3:23 a.m. on Feb. 29, Jersey City police responded to the 400 block of Pavonia Avenue on a report of a woman screaming for help. The victim told the officers she was physically and sexually assaulted in her home. She also gave a description of the man, including that he was wearing a black jacket and gloves, Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Leo Hernandez said.
