$288,524 for a traffic light and $885,838 for left turns, bike lanes and a pedestrian signals? Does this not seem like too much for something basic ?

ENFORCEMENT!
Needs to happen. I have asked repeatedly for JCPD to enforce cars yielding to pedestrians, and to ticket double parkers in bike lanes, but I have never seen any of this type of activity take place in Greenville. JCPD needs to enforce pedestrian crossings by ticketing offenders so the word gets around. Why spend all that money if there is no enforcement?

How about the $50 it would take to synchronize the traffic lights with the Pedestrian crosswalk signals?
NYC and any other first world city has this and for some reason JC doesn't seem to care. I raised this issue at a neighborhood meeting with Fulop years ago and am blown away this has never been tackled. Why should pedestrians not get the same info as drivers?

GEtting drivers to stop at red lights would go a long way.

Jersey City to receive more than $3M in pedestrian safety upgradesBy Jersey City will see more than $3 million in pedestrian safety upgrades through grants from the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority. Two grants, worth a total of $1.17 million, were awarded directly to the city for two projects, one in the Heights and the other Downtown. "As we continue improve public safety in Jersey City and as our city continues to develop and grow, we are mindful that includes having a walkable city for our residents," Mayor Steve Fulop said in a statement. A Marin Boulevard project received the largest grant, $885,838. The project includes creating additional left turn lanes, adding pedestrian countdown signals, and the creation of bike lanes.
