I've gotten rid of a fair amount of stuff on swap/sell, and even found a couple of treasures (Art Deco mirrored dresser for $200, vintage rolling desk chair for $30).

it's a great local resource, and I highly recommend joining.

The page is SUPER active. On the occasions I have posted something, I get responses and/or messages within minutes. I will echo HamiltonParker's general feeling that it's very nice/helpful to have this resource available.

Love that FB page ~ best thing to come along this year, for sure. I've given away a bunch of baby stuff ~ cleared out my house and the stuff found a great, second use.

It makes me so sad on Monday and Thursday nights as I walk past piles of items placed at the curb that could easily have given away on this FB page. Cat carriers, strollers, etc.

Local goods only, no services for sale. People in the group have been doing a great job swapping and selling in a respectful manner, it's been great.

Prismatic- there are free classifieds at the bottom of JCList if that's what you're looking to do. I've bought things off of here before, it's pretty helpful. I definitely encourage you to post items there that you want to sell locally, it's great.

As for Facebook, it's just so easy- I had to try it out! We have almost 200 people so far and a few things selling. If only I thought to take commission, LOL. I love our big little community.

It would be nice to be part of this but I don't do Facebook. Sigh.....

Are we allowed to do anything like this on here? I have furniture that is still good but I am looking to sell it but I don't use facebook and craigslist has proven to be a dud.

Just joined! I have had terrible luck with craigslist here, I think mainly it's the anonymity. If people are posting with something closer to their real identity maybe they won't be jerks and decide to give their kitchen cart to their friend at the last minute instead of selling it to me as agreed upon after I already arranged a vehicle and came to pick it up (Kitchen Cart 2010- never forget).

I love the Freecycle page too, but everything must be 100% free on that page. The FB group allows people to give away for free, trade or sell items. I know sometimes I have smaller items around the house that I want to sell- or once we bought a couch from someone in the neighborhood- and just rolled it up the block.

I like selling and buying locally when possible, and once I saw how this worked in other communities, thought it could be fun and easily connect people.

I think this is a perfectly fine idea, but I am wondering why you're not simply posting them on the Hudson County Freecycle. It's pretty much all JC/Hoboken with the occasional Bayonne or Kearny person.

This is a good idea but damn I don't ever use facebook. Guess I have to make a page, I have loads of good stuff I plan on getting rid of.

Hi my fellow Jersey City-ites! I just created a Facebook group page for Jersey City residents to post photos of items they want to sell locally, give away for free, or let people know what they're in search of.

I belong to a group page that was created in my hometown and was impressed by how great it works.
(see it here as an example: SoMa Swap/Sell

It's simple:
- pics with your item description/price show up in group members' FB feeds
- if you want to buy/get it, you can comment or PM the poster
- pick it up or buy it locally
- or mention an item you're looking for that someone might sell
- particularly great for baby/kid items to be reused/resold

Quicker to access than Craigslist, easy to post photos from your phone/tablet and sell your stuff! You can choose to have it pop up in your FB newsfeed or only see it when you go to the Swap/Sell FB page. I thought I would try it out for JC and see how it goes.

Join, spread the word and let's start selling/freecycling!
