The procession seemed to end at City Hall. I ended up walking past it. Nobody seemed to care nor mind that I am not Muslim.

An un-trusted bunch. Did they ever think about assimilating ? I agree, Heights. A completely untrusted bunch: GENEVA (MAY 6, 2014) ? The Vatican released comprehensive statistics for the first time Tuesday on how it has disciplined priests accused of raping and molesting children, saying 848 priests have been defrocked and another 2,572 given lesser sanctions over the past decade. The Vatican?s U.N. ambassador in Geneva, Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, revealed the figures during a second day of grilling by a U.N. committee monitoring implementation of the U.N. treaty against torture. It was the first time I saw it... I used "odd" to be somewhat PC, while you used "scary" which was my initial reaction to seeing and hearing it for the first time. And I did STFU (even though this is America), crossed the street and walked away because I didn't know what this was about and thought it was better not to possibly put my safety at risk.

For someone who doesn't need to work for a living, you have a very uncharitable world view.

Kind of sensitive there maybe you should give a hoot. At least with Stations of the Cross you know who you are dealing with, plus they can continue to walk in public without being in mystery. Try walking into a bank with your head covered. An un-trusted bunch. Did they ever think about assimilating ?

The first time I saw this I was scared until the history was explained to me. It isn't any more odd than Stations of the Cross or wearing Mormon underwear. If it isn't your religion and you don't like it, walk away and stfu. (I say that with all due respect)

Have to admit, it was odd, so much black with large black banners, music and chanting. I was crossing on Warren heading to Columbus and figured it was smarter to stay away than get close to find out what was going on. Thanks for the update.

The Mourning of Muharram, Remembrance of Muharram, or Muharram Observances, is a set of rituals associated with Shia Islam, which takes place in Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. Many of the events associated with the ritual take place in congregation halls known as Hussainia.
The event marks the anniversary of the Battle of Karbala when Imam Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, and a Shia Imam, was killed by the forces of the second Umayyad caliph Yazid I at Karbala. Family members, accompanying Hussein ibn Ali, were killed or subjected to humiliation. The commemoration of the event during yearly mourning season, from first of Muharram to twentieth of Safar with Ashura comprising the focal date, serves to define Shia communal identity. At present, Muharram Observances are carried out in countries with noteworthy Shia population, including Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Lebanon, India, and Bahrain.

I was out walking about 3:00 and there was some sort of Muslim rally on the closed west bound lane of Montgomery, right across from the Blue Moon Caf?. About 150 people most dressed in black, chanting with music. It was the oddest place to hold rally. JCPD blocked the street.
