As a 40 year plus resident myself.. Beacon is the Heights. Route 139 is universally considered the demarcation line.

I made no judgement of the area or it's residents, I judged the victims because it appeared from the report that there were part of the shooters, um, "social circle". Fact is relatively few "civilians" get shot, even counting the occasional bystanders. Most urban shooting victims are players.

That's probably more because Prospect is the 07307 zip code line than anything else. You would think the well informed gun carrying thug would know that Medical Center is the place to go for major trauma like gunshot.

The hospital is one block away, they made the right choice in going there. On another note am disappointed that you are calling the victims "thugs" and the blanket general description of that area and their residents.

Sorry Jcpaddy, your friends are wrong. A zip code does not delineate an area. Most consider from the highway north to be the Heights. Some would put it at the north side of Newark. But Prospect is definitely wrong.

But brewster, why would they go to the MC, an excellent hospital, when they have the mighty Care Point backed Christ Hospital within walking distance.

Beacon and Baldwin are notorious for knuckleheads and dregs of the neighborhood. No shocker on the shootings.

Two Jersey City men shot during Fourth of July party

By Mike D'Onofrio/The Jersey Journal
on July 06, 2014 at 2:11 PM, updated July 06, 2014 at 2:14 PM

Two men were shot early Saturday morning after an argument broke out at a party in Jersey City, according to police.

The two city residents, ages 28 and 31, were shot around 12:50 a.m. inside an apartment at 44 Beacon Ave., which is near Baldwin Avenue, officials said.

The 28-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and the bullet exited through his back, and 31-year-old man was shot once in his left hand, according to police.

Both men were taken to Christ Hospital in a private car and were in stable condition, police said.

A witness told officers that he heard "some type of argument" erupt at the party and then a shot ring out.

Inside the apartment, police found one shell casing and one fragmented bullet, officials said.

No arrests have been made. Police say there are looking for two suspected shooters.

The first man is described as about 5-feet 1-inch tall with a medium complexion wearing a white, No. 7 New York Knicks jersey. The other suspect is described as tall and thin, with cornrows, possibly African-American and wearing a red Chicago Bulls basketball jersey, according to police.

Police believe the two shooters fled the scene in a white van.
