I'm a big fan of NJ Beer Co. They were super cool when took a trip over there on the light rail with a few others. I'm planning to head back as well given how awesome they were the first time. I don't know if they had the Scotch Ale on tap or if you tried it, but it's damn good!

OK, since NJ Beer Co was open from 5-9 today we zipped up JFK, down Secaucus Road to 1&9, then north, and next a left on 43rd Street in North Bergen where they are located.
Picked up a growler of their Hudson Pale Ale, another of their Long Beach Island IPA. I had an empty growler, paid $5 for the second one, and depending on the beer/ale/stout you get a growler fill is either $8 or $10. The Hudson was $8, and the LBI $10. Of course, you get 4 free 4oz tastes if you want to hang out for a bit, and they sell regular pints as well (didn't check the price on those, as we had a few other stops to make). They had a guy playing guitar and singing, and the place was rocking.

I don't think it has to have the specific information regarding the contents (abv, style, etc.). Rather it just can't be mislabeled.

I don't know that it would comply if the required label has to have specific content.

I've gotten the growlers from White Star a few times. It's $10 up front (bottle purchase) and each refill is the cost of whatever a pitcher of your chosen brew is.

Yeah, and other states require a label on any liquor sold, so some brewpubs print their own and put them on growlers that they refill. They come off with warm water, but they technically obey the regulation.

The other way to get around this is to buy a big sticker to put over branded growlers you already own. Most places will allow that as well while other still will resist in order to try to make you buy or rent their growlers. One example of this is Tired Hands brewing out of PA. They are no longer filling outside growlers. Their reason behind this is that they had their growlers and taps built to a specific height to match each other and minimize oxygenation of beer.....

Well our shop is a liquor store, so there are different laws compared to a bar. We do have some empty growlers for sale right now, for $6 including a polyseal cap (most bars charge $10 with a metal cap I think?). It's got a Thirsty Quaker sticker on it but it's easy to pull off if you need a blank one.

If the issue is with branded growlers, sell generic empty ones that you can fill. I am sure many patrons would appreciate it, and would give you repeat business.

White Star and Iron Monkey are the only places downtown that I know of doing growlers. There are some places in Hoboken like Little Town as well. I've brought non-branded growlers to Iron Monkey and they didn't give me any problems, but call ahead to be sure at any location.
We were really hoping to do growlers at our shop, based on some preliminary info we got from the ABC, but it looks like that won't be happening without some policy changes with the state, unfortunately. If you head to White Star for growlers, stop by our shop and grab some extra stuff to take along!

I think I recall seeing on their sign that they do half priced growlers on wed nights or something like that.

Quite a regular

Warning--growlers at the iron monkey used to be STUPID expensive. Like $35 per growler, or the cost of purchasing the equivalent fluid oz as pints at the bar. I hope they have wised up....

It's actually a law that you can't fill growlers with labels of another company. Supposedly the reasoning behind this is that it's mislabeled. Just like you can't put Budweiser in a Founders can because it would be mislabeled. This has been a long standing law that used to be little enforced but from my experience, places that do fill growlers now are more likely to enforce this law.

Iron Monkey does growlers but I don't think they'll fill other growlers. Probably would have to get one from them but they do have great selection

Growlers of beer-choices?

I'm going to a picnic on Sunday, and was planning on bringing some growlers of NJ Beer Co beer or ale-but learned today they're going to be closed Saturday, so I can't drop by and fill them.
Where else in JC can I fill the growlers I have? They are NJ Beer Co branded, will other locations fill them? (I know Triumph Brewery won't fill other company growlers). What do other locations charge? Thanks!
