I really wanted to like this place since it's an old school mom and pops near my apartment. However, the food just wasn't that good. I would go to Rita and Joe's or Carmine's over this place any day.

Went in there once during the day to look at
the menu as I'd never been there before. The
place reeked like an ashtray. It was disgusting.
Never went back.

Came home very late tonight, thirsty after working extremely late and stopped at the Barge Inn for an extraordinarily late night cap. It turned into a winner-stays-on pool table championship and it morphed into a fantastic evening.

It was one of those evenings that was quintessentially JC: no one cared where you were from, what your accent sounds like, just good people, hanging out together, making acquaintances, and the booze was dirt cheap. Just be a nice person and you're in the club.

No question to offer, just a great fall night to be living in this town. And yes; I was undefeated on the table when they called time...

Agreed. The FBI's wanton rousting of law-abiding citizens has gone on far too long. #DontRoustMeBro

Really? Have you witnessed lots of wanton rousting by FBI goons? Are they really roaming the streets accosting innocent citizens? This is the kind of loose conspiracy talk that makes the internet so fun.

Why exactly did the FBI shut them down ? That hasn't been made clear yet.

Just drove by tonight and everything looks normal

The Barge has some of the best Italian food in JC. Much better than some of these new over hyped hipster spots.

Authentic and old school neighborhood spot that take you back in time.

Raid or no raid, I've never had a bad meal there.

The Barge Inn is a warm and cozy Italian restaurant on the corner of 3rd and Monmouth Streets in Jersey City that offers lovers of Italian cuisine authentic family recipes in an atmosphere that makes you feel like you were invited to dinner at a friend?s home. And that?s just the way Linda and Peter ?Bitzy? Paldino and Linda?s brother Richie Marto, who oversees The Barge Inn?s bar around the corner, want you to feel.

?Linda and Bitzy have been married 31 years and not only are they partners in life, they?re partners in business. They have a son Richard who is? a Detective on the East Orange Police Force for 6 years...

The FBI was probably just driving by at which point they saw the name of the place and took it literally.

Golly, who would have guessed that place had ties to organized crime?

Isn't that what they're supposed to do?

Apparent FBI raid at Jersey City bar

By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal
April 30, 2014 at 11:58 AM

FBI agents paid a visit to the Barge Inn restaurant and bar in Downtown Jersey City today, shutting down the Jersey City institution temporarily.

The agents, accompanied by New Jersey State Police and Jersey City cops, were inside the Third Street establishment for about two hours. Officers on the scene declined to say what they were investigating.

The Barge Inn has a restaurant with an entrance on Third Street near Monmouth Street, while there?s a separate entrance to a bar on Monmouth Street. That?s where the focus of the investigation seemed to be.

A man who told The Jersey Journal he was inside the bar when it happened said he was ?thrown to the ground? when agents barreled inside this afternoon.

?I got rousted,? said the man, who declined to give his name and refused to provide any more details.
