This post is from 2007, but the ordinance cited says construction is permitted 7am-6pm on weekdays. http://jclist.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=96428

Is this coming from the construction on C. Columbus Avenue?
I am having an issue with it. Does anyone know the legal hours work can be done? The work crew near me was out and working at 7am today.

Just remember that construction from Monday thru Friday can start at 7am & end at 6pm. On Saturday from 9am to 5 pm by special permit only. No work on Sundays.

As a long time resident (and native to the other side of the river), I thank you for not suggesting I go back to a place I've never been. I'm in a rental, so there's not much I guess I can do, but thanks for the advice. Guess I'll invest in earplugs...

Seeing as how 65 dB is a normal conversation I doubt that is the threshold.

I think construction comes with its attendant noise and if you are not used to it, there is not much the construction company can do provided they are working normal hours and not on weekends.
Yeah, i guess you may have to work in the library or something or install sound proofing, though i don't think any amount of sound proofing would dampen the sound of pile driving and hammering. Quote:

I am quite surprised that, two hours in, no one has retorted with the usual "move to the suburbs, this is a city" reply.
Not sure what to tell you, though. Some people have suggested soundproofing solutions and contractors, and a search through the site should yield some results. Good luck. I work from home often, but my place is rather quiet and I normally have music in the background when concentrating.

I am an at home freelancer working/living Downtown. The noise from the construction level around here is excessive. Definitely above the 65 decibel threshold. Anybody have advice on what I can do? (Besides going to a coffee shop)
