We do a combination of Key Foods and Whole Foods (Tribeca) depending on where we are / coming from.

For non-perishables, I get almost everything from Amazon.com Subscribe and Save. It may not be the cheapest (but always comparable), but delivers to my door (beats having me lugging around my granny cart to BJ's, which was what we used to do). BTW, BJ's has a decent selection of basic produce and fruit (eg lettuce, apple, grapes, etc).

I love P&K. Great prices and surprising variety given the size. For any items I can't get at P&K (like meat or seafood)...I'd rather go to Shoprite than KeyFoods which just doesn't do it for me. I'd go there in a pinch, but I'd rather buy meat at Shoprite where there is greater variety and greater turnover.

1. Wegmans in Woodbridge
2. Trader Joe's on West 23rd or Edgewater
3. ShopRite, completely acceptable for certain items
4. A & P, although you have to know costs. Often much higher
than any of the above on most items.

I am really happy with Key Food since the remodel. The Meat in the back is freshly cut and sliced well.

Someone had mentioned that it is priced a little higher than Shop Rite, however I find the produce fresher.

Podewitz Delicatessen & Grocery up in the Heights on Central Ave. Typical hearty American fare. An array of cold cuts, salads, pickles, and hot foods. Roasted chickens, and on Fridays cooked fish. Grocery section stocks basic items, and specialty breads and packaged goods.

1 Twin City either one but I prefer the one on Garfield
2 Patel Cash & Carry in Journal Square
3 Organic Basic Food (its in Hoboken)
4 Stop and Shop (its in Bayonne)
5 Trader Joe's (its in Milburn)

I agree, Key Foods is a great improvement over C-Town. I am suspicious of their food labeling, though. They have been labeling their salmon as 'wild sockeye salmon' for many months. It doesn't look like wild sockeye salmon and they sell it at about half the price of wild sockeye salmon. I asked someone there about it once, but got no answer. (i did call city inspectors, but that didn't seem to be effective, either). I've also seen them label tilapia as 'farm raised salmon', and when I let them know, I got a lot of attitude. Also, keep an eye on the meat coolers; sometimes the temperatures seem too low.

Their deli guys have been great, the produce is pretty good.

Also 1+ for TenderShoot.

Morton Williams, which in my house is always called Williams-Sonoma, is the only reliable place to buy fish in DTJC, I've found. If you stand at the escalators at Grove Street, you'll notice a number of people with sacks from WF or TJ which might be an indication of something. I also recommend Key Food, the fruits and vegetables are better than the two Korean Greengrocers - Tender Shoots and P and K, in my recent experience.

Moloney's Meat, near the courthouse. It has a different soup and sandwich freshly prepared everyday, a nice assortment of frozen pasta, frozen and some fresh vegetables. But it is know for its meats which are prepared to you order. Their prices are also reasonable.

Key Foods on Jersey has come a long way since it was C-Town. Good in a pinch for regular groceries. Target for detergent, cleaning supplies, etc.

Supremo in a pinch because we live within walking distance of it, and we also go to Newark Street/India Street because my husband and I are both S. Asian so it's pretty easy for us to go there for spices and things we want for our native cooking (and it's cheap).

However, we do our major shopping at HMart and Costco, further up in Clifton and Fort Lee.

Where do you live? If you are in or near the Heights, I recommend 'El Supremo' on Palisade Avenue at Ferry Street. Largely caters to the Latin/South American residents - but has a surprisingly varied produce section (in addition to every conceivable hot pepper, their cilantro is always fresh and fragrant). I doubt it's locally sourced, but its always pretty fresh. Somethings you will not find - K-cups, or good whole grain breads, but they have some suprising things in stock - frozen rabbit and duck, quail eggs!

Still a bit new to JC and love Twnder Shoot Farm and the grocery joint on Grove .. Nice Korean people own it.
Where do you get groceries and what is your Recommendation?
I prefer buying local and looking forward to Farmers Markets..but anything else until then?

Where are the best prices for detergents, house cleaning stuff?
Fruits and veggies?

I do see difference and am willing to walk around for deals;)
