On Wednesday March 27th at 7:00 pm there will be a North District (Heights/JSQ) Police Captain's meeting. Location is at MS #7 School 222 Laidlaw Ave. between Kennedy Blvd./Collard St and Summit Ave. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria, if doors are locked ring bell to alert security to open them. This meeting is held every 3rd Wednesday of the month to dicusss police related issues.

There might be proposed nj legislation soon to enforce using camera equipped buses. The same company that lobbied for red light cameras is behind this push.

We're actually both wrong. It's a 5 point violation and no, it is hardly ever enforced.

Bullshit... a ticket would only be issued IF a policeman happens to witness the violation AND if they care enough to bother enforcing the rules. I have seen people blow STOP signs in front of police with ZERO consequences.

I mentioned this issue and the Captain is well aware of it and knows it happens frequently. Tickets are issued when it occurs and it is a big ticket 8 points and the violation is issued to both the driver and owner of the vehicle.

This is a problem city wide. I had a driver start beeping me once in McGinley square for stopping for a school bus with their stop sign out. This also happens a lot near St Domenic Academy. If they get caught it's a 6 point moving violation but good luck with that.

Heights, I don't live in the Heights anymore but I drive through almost daily. I have noticed an alarming lack of driver awareness lately when school buses are stopped with lights on/stop signs shown. The other day on Summit, two cars just sped by a school bus letting off children for the day. I've also seen this happen on Palisade Avenue just past the Supremo Market. If you (or someone else here who attends the meeting) could mention this at the next meeting, I'm sure many families in the area would appreciate it. It would be an excellent revenue producer, too - they should fine the hell out of these idiots.

Subject: East District Captain's Meeting
Hello and hope everyone had an enjoyable summer.
We will resume the monthly East District Captain's meeting this month. Unlike meetings past, we will have some meetings outdoors and at coffee shops/spots.
This month's meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2015, 7:00 p.m., in the pedestrian plaza (you won't miss us). If the weather forces the meeting to be moved, I will advise on relocation.
The meeting format will be similar to the indoor meetings. Captain Daniel Sollitti, East District Commander, will discuss crime/crime trends, quality of life issues, and address all questions, issues and concerns. The meeting is open to the public and it is in the best interest of East District residents to attend.

Many thanks for the reply. For anyone else who may be interested it's held at 6PM on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Old Bergen Church. However, they're not sure if they will meet in November since that will be the night before Thanksgiving.
