Yes. You should live where you enjoy living. I have had long 90-120 minute commutes as well as very short walks to work. None of that matters if you don't like where you are when you get home and where you spend your weekends and free time. With a 15-minute walk to work, I just sleep later in the mornings and take care of household stuff when I get home earlier. It never feels like I have all this extra time on my hands. With longer commutes I read a lot more books and it becomes a habit that I just don't dwell on or ponder too much. So, unless you just absolutely cannot physically and emotionally stand commuting more than an hour or so and sleep is of paramount importance in your life, you should not let commuting time dictate your residence. Eddie Albert or Eva Gabor?

Plus, what would we all complain about on "Freehold List?"

With no disrespect to Freehold intended.

I hate people like that. I tell them what rent is around here and they're like "Thats more than my mortgage!" as they get in their car to drive in 3 hours of traffic one way home to central jersey. Where their property taxes are 15K a year.

I wanna stab those fucking idiots in the face.

Why hate them?

I feel sorry for them. This guy doesn't have kids said he wanted a big house/yard and cheap housing. But, there's only so many hours in a day, why waste it if you don't have to.

How is spending 1000 hrs a year commuting cheap? If he makes $50k a year, that's time's worth $25k. Never mind the actual transport cost.

Some people put up with commutes so as not to have to raise their kids here. It's only an hour or so to Monmouth County and the taxes are not much different than a downtown two-bedroom condo. No condo fees, either. And the schools? Come on. Can't say that I blame them.

Sure, different strokes for different folks. But scoffing at JC rents when not factoring in the monetary and opportunity cost of commuting >1 hr. is short sighted. It's great to have a yard and good schools but what's that worth if you are only home in time to see your kids awake for an hour or two? Not to mention needing a car in the 'burbs - the cost of a car payment and insurance could cancel out the cheapness of the rent/mortgage.

Reminds me of the guy I work with who was saying real estate here is overpriced, that his place is 25% the cost of a house here. Then I asked him to remind me how much time he spends commuting every day, it's ~3.5 hours on a good day. He lives in PA.

"Golf simulator?" Well now, that seals it. Do you get to drive off a tee into NY Harbor a-la Cosmo Kramer? Is anyone here a marine biologist?!?

This is the developer that not only demanded to renegotiate its abatement because the building wasn't profitable, but sued the city when they didn't get their way.

I am glad the properties are selling. I also hope that the Fulop administration performs the municipal equivalent of a proctology exam on the project's finances.
