I totally agree with Brewster. If you ask anyone who was at my wedding what the table decorations looked like, what sort of paper the invitation was on, what song the band played for our dance, or even where the reception was, I doubt anyone but my wife and I would remember. What they do remember is whether or not they had a good time.

Just focus on finding a place that is convenient for people to get to, will make them feel relaxed and comfortable, and can provide what you want in terms of food, drink, atmosphere, music. What should be unique, lasting and memorable is the marriage. The wedding is just a party to celebrate that.

Leigh, relax!!! It's just a wedding, when it's over you can't live in it, eat it, or sell it. It's nice if it's nice, but I know long married happy couples who had tiny ones or none at all. Ours was at a little "converted farm" hotel in the Catskills where our guests stayed in somewhat run down bungalows and we had a barn dance & BBQ the night before. Everyone loved it and we didn't spend anywhere close to what people consider "required".

There's a movement in the Bar Mitzvah world away from the shindig, my son's "party" was taking 15 friends to a water park. The "big wedding" paradigm needs a similar reform, it would ease a lot of stress.

I always wanted to get married in the train station at Liberty State Park also, but they do not allow it still.
We looked into Liberty Science Center and it is a little pricey, because you have to rent everything. The Lowes Theater sounds awesome, I have looked at pictures and looks beautiful! I will have to contact them!
I have contacted the Barrow Mansion and I am waiting to hear from them.
We wanted something different and unique. We also didn't want to have the ceremony at the venue, because we did not want to miss cocktail hour because of pictures. We don't want to do first look pictures, so we are open to any suggestions.
Thanks for your suggestions!!

How many people?

Barrow Mansion is cool, but you have to accommodate their event schedule and it's for around 100 ppl, I think.

We did our ceremony and reception at the Loew's. It was amazeballs, but you'd have to likely pay full price for the rental even if it's just the ceremony, which may not make sense unless you're rolling in money.

Jersey City Museum?

Liberty Science Center has some cool spaces but also $$.

I always wanted to get married at the old train station/CRRNJ/Statue of Liberty ticket office, but they didn't offer that option as of 2009 when I got married.

I think you'll need to give more of an idea of what you're looking for, since if you don't want the wedding at the reception hall you're clearly looking for "something" different.

Oudoors? A park? Unique setting? A gallery? The Loews Theater? What? Too bad there's no "Windows on JC" restaurant on top of the Beacon, that would be some view!

15 month out, you're a planner! We did just fine in 6.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a wedding ceremony in the Jersey City area. The reception is going to be at Maritime Parc, but we are looking for a different venue for the ceremony. We are not religious, so a church is not an option. The wedding will be on 9/26/14. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
