My point is that the chance of this particular crime being stopped by the presence of a firearm in the home seems astonishingly small. If you're going to respond at least make coherent arguments of how a firearm used and stored in the manner recommended when you have small children at home, would have stopped this crime.

Even if she was armed chances are she would not have had time to get her gun... blah, blah, blah... invest in better locks and a good security system. If you try to break into my house it will take you a good hour and half before u get in... and hopefully once you get in my nanny cam will catch my dogs eating you alive.

We had this debate over 200 years ago. You either understand the 2nd Amendment or you do not. There's nothing new or terribly interesting here. For every dead kid the gun grabbers exploit, I'll present a life that could have been saved had our right to keep and bear arms not been infringed as written in the highest law of our land; our United States Constitution
If I could morph time and space, I'd put a loaded firearm in this woman's hand. Is anyone here really willing to tell me she and her family did not deserve that?

I'll just repost what I said on a friend's facebook page.....
Good people need a chance to defend themselves. The question is how. Setting up a spring trap is illegal. As is mining your front yard. Advocates of gun control, at least rational ones, believe that, overall, the dangers and risks of having arms, even for legitimate self defense, outweighs the benefits. The video you showed is extremely disturbing. The news report I heard the other day of a 5 year old finding her parents gun and accidentally shooting herself is even more disturbing. A beat up mom on one side, a dead kid on the other. These issues can be discussed without saying that gun control advocates don't believe in the right to defend oneself. The Supreme Court, of course, has said that at least part of that debate is off the table, because the 2nd amendment demands that states recognize at least some right to firearm ownership regardless of the cost benefit analysis (I recall Justice Scalia claiming that a majority opinion "would certainly lead to to more Americans being killed" but he didn't seem to think that was a relevant issue in this case). So we have to continue the debate, albeit with some options taken off the table.

Why the need to inject so much speculation?
The truth is simple. NJ, with its "gun control" agenda, is complicit in this and all similar attacks. I doubt a "gun grabber" would have the gall to tell this woman and her children they're glad she was unarmed. I'm not speculating and the topic stands. If this woman were armed, this *could* have been prevented. The key word in that topic is *could*. Meaning, she would have had a chance. The only reason she is NOT dead is because the attacker chose to let her live. The next victim may not be so fortunate.

The chances of having a gun ready and loaded while you are watching TV with your 3 year old seem pretty slim. There are cases when having a gun in the house would be very helpful, I doubt this is one.
If you are carrying around a loaded and ready weapon while playing with your kid, the kid is much more likely to be shot by you than you are to fend of an attack.

It's a shame you believe our innate right to keep and bear arms is... "politics".
Then again, this isn't about you and I; it's about what happened to this woman, her family and her property. If she were armed, she would have had a chance to defend herself.

It is more likely that she would be dead. And relaxed gun laws would have made it more likely that the intruder would be armed, in which case she would also likely be dead. Fortunately, no guns were in sight and she is alive and he will be caught.
