Is this still active for the winter? I'd like to join up for a winter league and then summer too.

Cool....but I'd be willing to pay more to NOT have to take the light rail to that shady ass stop.

Dear All-

Please note that I have been able to find a cheaper venue ( listed below) which dramatically reduces the cost of the league. The Jersey City Dept of Recreation has graciously decided to allow us to use the courts cost free. The cost now will be $30 per person and $175 per team ( must register at least 8 players) However now each team will need to bring $40 per game to pay the refs. Need sign ups by this friday in order to start the league on time. The games will still be on Tuesday nights starting around 630-7 and depending on how many teams sign up may also play thursday nights as well. You can still register at the below site. If you have already signed up for the league and paid $ 100 i will give a full refund or give back the difference. Also if you prefer to pay in person please contact me and i will give you my number to arrange.

The games will be played on Johnston st ( 2 blocks from liberty state park light rail station) next to the Lafyette Pool and aquatic center.

Is there a possibility for practice days or pick up days?

I haven't played in about 8 years (no joke)

Thanks for the interest in this league. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of interest people have shown. I have been able to secure the 2 outdoor courts at the boys and girls club in downtown JC ( grand and grove across from taqueria) starting the week of july 8th playing either tuesday or thursday nights from 8-10. There is enough now to have an 8 team league with approx 8 players on each team. The league will be 7 games (everyone plays each team once). Everyone will make the playoffs and they will be seeded 1-8. The entire season will end the week of labor day or week after. The games will be 2 20 minute running halves withe the last two minutes of every half clock stopping. The games will be college ruled.

Unfortunately there are a number of costs that go into this has driven up the price (insurance for the courts, jerseys, refs, basketballs, scoreboards, league website that allows credit card registration payments,) Right now there are two scenarios:

1) $ 100 per person with the possibility of a $10 pp discount if a entire team of at least 8 people is entered. With this you get

7 games

Jersey

Refs

Pretty much just show up and play.

2) $80 per person with the possibility of a $10 pp discount if a entire team of at least 8 people is entered. However with this option each team must bring $20 per game ( so $40) total to pay the refs. You still get 7 games and a jersey.

$100.00 is definitely a steep registration fee, however, I have found that the initial cost does seem to foster better attendance. The flip side is the worry that, if a league charges $20 bucks, people wouldn't have much of a disincentive to no-show.

Sporadic attendance is the death knell of consistent, fun pick up.

To the OP - I'll shoot an e-mail, probably have one or two that would be interested as well.

Plays at Golden Door Charter

or you can play zog 4v4 in hoboken.

No one WANTS to pay 900 a season for games they can't commit to. Plus some of those guys take it way too seriously.

I know I've seen people playing inside Grace Church Van Vorst on Erie.

I'm not sure what the deal is there.

My Brooklyn-via-Harlem transplant boyfriend would love to play locally -- he goes into NY to play pickup at his old spots or plays with the youngins' occasionally at HPark -- and was just bemoaning the lack of grownup basketball around these parts.

Do it!

try Meetup, I have been using them and found great people to play tennis with in my own neighborhood. You can also start your own league.
