Here's my question. Why would someone who doesn't live in Jersey City contribute the legal limit of $10,400 (and his wife did the same), to a Jersey City mayoral candidate? As well as spend an undisclosed amount more through his PAC? Altruism?

The issue isn't having further ambition. It's just that those with further ambition seldom make drastic changes for fear of it being used against them and makes it more likely the person does get involved in the muck because of the backing needed to get to the next level.

I'm not saying Steve would do that but it does happen.

In any event, the big difference I think between Steven and Carcetti is that Carcetti was never really an outsider.

Isn't the big difference that one is a fictional character?

A fictional character based on a real person. Replace the name Carcetti with O'Malley and the same discussion ensues.

It's still a relevant discussion about Fulop and is a concern that has been expressed before.

It was one of the knocks on Christie and has been said about Booker (who ran on a change platform but ended up retaining some people from the prior administration).

I suppose that's one scenario, but it sure hasn't stopped Christie from acting aggressively. Do you think it describes Booker?

Tommy Carcetti is partly based on Martin O'Malley, who is the current governor of Maryland. There is also some talk about higher aspirations.

Isn't it more likely that Booker will run for Governor in 2017? Would Fulop really be able to pull off w against him in just 4 years? I think it is more likely that Steve sticks it out for one full term, wins another and then during the 2nd term considers a switch to Washington, or a move for Governor if Booker looses, or is ineffective similar to Corzine in 2021?.

I am familiar, and even joked about it with my wife back in the day - parallel between Carcetti and Fulop - young upstart council candidate taking over the city. Years ago I even mentioned to Steve to watch the Wire (honest)! So I get the joke. It is funny! I may need to catch up on sleep so that I can get my sense of humor back...

The Wire is one of my favorite shows of all time - along with Homicide - life on the streets. A current favorite of the genre is Southland.

But if he is like Carcetti than there won't be any meaningful change since he'll be working on his governor's run in 2017 (which is already being pushed in a poll on the front page of politickernj).

It was a pretty good joke, for those of us who are/were fans of The Wire.

I have to say that, anytime I watch an old episode in which Carcetti is featured, something about the character reminds me of Fulop: young, energetic, up-and-coming politician in a corrupt city of entrenched machine politics. And, there is somewhat of a passing resemblance.

Definitely glad that Fulop got elected. Let's all hope for some real, meaningful change in the coming years!

Disappointed healy wasn't victorious? Please get over it.

Congratulations to Steven Fulop, and thanks to Mayor Healy for his 12 years of service - as councilman/mayor.
