A Jersey City artist is struggling to recover after he was beaten by three robbers early Friday morning.

Alex Lutomirski-Kolacz, 46, struggled to talk about the attack by phone from his Tonnelle Avenue home Sunday, two days after three men robbed him around 2:30 a.m., on Summit Avenue and Astor Place, while taking an early morning stroll, he and police reports said.

He said he was repeatedly punched him in the face, knocked him to the ground and repeatedly kicked him, before stealing his iPhone.

"I have been taking walks every night. ... It is helps me clearing my mind and is a source of inspiration for my art," said Lutomirski-Kolacz, who writes and photographs under the name Alukotron the Artist. "I felt safe and I don't anymore."

Lutomirski-Kolacz said his assailants asked if he wanted to buy some cocaine and when he told them he wasn't interested, they attacked him, grabbed his iPhone, and fled.

Buy the JJ? a true work of art .

I hope this is not representative of all artists....he "does not blame" the muggers? and in the comment section of the article, he says he "Forgives them?"

I wouldn't even drive by that neighborhood at 2:30PM let alone walk in that area at 2:30AM. Although I am not blaming him - my blame is solely on the muggers. I am, however, saying this guy is not too bright.

I think some parts of JC should be put under military control until violent crime in those areas drop significantly. Those areas are basically a disaster so where is FEMA and the national guard when you need them....

I saw that in the article too, and thought, so the poor economy makes it okay for the less fortunate to go robbing people? Uh...okay.

I vote not too bright. Living in the city trouble may find you anyway, why go looking for it?

Maybe it's some kind of performance art? Go walking in unsafe neighborhoods and see what happens....?

This is why law abiding citizens need to be able to protect themselves against low lives like these guys, this state needs to allow LAW ABIDING CITIZENS to have the option of getting a concealed permit.
