Sustained wind speeds from weather stations on the Hudson are showing sustained wind speeds of about 40 mph. That is higher than what Irene produced when she finally got here.

Has anyone heard if the mall is offering a discount day rate? My car is one of my only assets I'm not sure if I'm taking too much of a risk keeping it on Hamilton Park...

I am so happy I am in the Heights and not on the waterfront right now. Looks like a good chance the ground floor units will have some really wet floors tomorrow morning.

Cam moved again.. I saw the Verrazano Narrows bridge. That cam must be on Staten Island.

thanks for the links! At least we can access how rough it's already getting and Sandy is still 300+ miles away. I shudder to imagine how it will be tonight. I think this will be worst than Irene.

Someone is controlling that cam. It moves every now and then. I am not certain where it is either... sort of reminds me of the waterfront in Queens though.

I'm not on the Hudson, but on the southern waterfront, facing liberty state park.
The water is just about coming level with a mark it hit at Irene's peak, it's perhaps 6" below. So at the current high tide, I'd say we're 3' to 4' above normal high tide.

yes, the surge has been estimated at 6'. but surge + tide is what is of concern. here's a link with a map of links to tide+surge charts for various points.

NOAA reduced the 6 ft+ storm surge probabilities from when I last checked yesterday. I guess we could consider that a bit of good news. The morning high tide should be happening right about now (time of this post).
Next high tide is going to be around 8:30 tonight give or take..

If anyone has a clear view of the JC riverfront, please post whether this morning's 9AM high tide is spilling onto street level. sounds like tonight's cycle will hit much harder. but NOAA show's the possibility of 9' rise at the Battery this AM.

In a poignant, powerful Public Information Statement this afternoon, the?National Weather Service in New Jersey?is begging that people heed warnings, and evacuate if they are asked to. They write,?"If you are reluctant [to evacuate], think about your loved ones, think about the emergency responders who will be unable to reach you when you make the panicked phone call to be rescued, think about the rescue/recovery teams who will rescue you if you are injured or recover your remains if you do not survive."

Can anybody who lives in Gull's Cove or any of the condos around the marina post periodic updates as to the status of the marina as the day goes by? I fear that the floating dock will rise above the pilings and float away. In fact, I think there is a very high chance of this happening.
If anybody in eyeshot of the marina can post updates, I'd be eternally grateful!

Brewster, Hoboken has had flooding problems for years now. Add in their poor infrastructure and lack of proper maintenance or planning and you have a disaster in the making. Under Zimmer's current administration...you might get the next Atlantis.

just walking around my block, I'm seeing the wide range of responses to this storm, from the neighbors who've carefully sandbagged their entire building, to the ones who thought this would be a great night to pile their trash around the public cans on the corner.
