Thanks for the helpful feedback. Yup, I know I need either blackout or room darkening for a portion of my LR where the TV is. Mike - I reached out windows by unique and was impressed with their very helpful attitude. They even sent me a free sample of the unique honeycomb that they recommended which will match my current blinds. On the other hand, their quote is far beyond my budget and I am so forced to explore other places like Home Depot who also offer a lot of window treatments. Thanks again.

Decide if you want blinds or roller shades, blackout shades are good for the bedroom you might want light diffusing or or light blocking shades in the other rooms.

Thanks! I don't have a noise issue, just glare and heat. I am now pleasantly confused as to what to go for: - simple blinds/thick thermal curtains - solar screens - blackout screens (motorized) Need an expert and so scheduled two pro's to come in for free consultations next week. I will mention to them that my business to them is solely thanks to this site. :)

If you have a noise issue, then heavy drapes with sound-proofing qualities are the way to go

Thank you very much for these great suggestions! Much appreciated.
Scottacus - I am not that handy but try to do things if I am confident wouldn't cause collateral damage if I screw up. :D In this case, these need to be fixed on the ceiling and so needs a bit of either professional help or from those who are experienced. BergenWood - didn't know that JCP offers consultancy services. I understand that they might offer it only for 'big' jobs but given the unique setting of my LR, I am very much leaning towards having a pro give his/her suggestions after seeing it first hand. Thanks again everyone! :) Will update the thread once I try out a few based on your suggestions. Have a wonderful day!

Monica Plotka designs. You can find her on the web. Make sure your landlord has no objections if you are renting. You have to use the right installer and hardware for the job. Its a very important feature in a home. Good window treatment increase value of homes.

If you're at all handy you may want to consider measuring and/or installing blinds/drapes yourself as you will save a lot of money. Smith and Noble and The Shade Store are places where you can have blinds made to order based on your measurements. Most blinds are pretty easy to install yourself.
A few years ago when we were installing blinds I talked to Interior Motif in Hoboken and they were very expensive.

Quite a regular

We used the solar mesh roller shade from JCPenney for our very oversize windows in our last apartment. JCPenney has decorators, too, that do consultations if you have a bigger job.

Hi,
I need to reduce the glare/sunlight streaming into the living room of my high-rise apartment. Have floor-to-ceiling glasses on the west side and need an experienced individual to suggest the best way to achieve my objective. Any recommendations? Thanks!
