Go to the Holy Rosary Feast in August (6th & Brunswick-ish). The Italian Village neighborhood still has plenty of life and fun. They usually have a booth with old photos of the neighborhood that are fun to look at.

You can\'t really see the Freedom Tower from street level anywhere except from the waterfront, to my knowledge. I saw the Freedom Tower from behind Journal Square at street level today. Between PATH and HCCC.

Wow, the views of lower Manhattan from even far out in downtown JC were awesome. Now, unless you\'re on the waterfront, you really can\'t see anything. You can\'t really see the Freedom Tower from street level anywhere except from the waterfront, to my knowledge.
Also, the Village looks surprisingly active and vibrant in that video. I always thought the 70\'s and 80\'s were the darkest days for JC.

Similar to the apparent low income housing on Montgomery St from Varrick thru Brunswick St, is there something similar on the other side of Newark Ave (in Harsimus Cove or The Italian Village or Hamilton Park) ???

Live on 5th Street for two years and never had an issue. Relatively quiet for the most part. Lot of people who don't want any trouble and make it their business to keep it that way.

I live in the Cove (3rd Street) and it is great because it is so quiet. Great neighbors who are friendly but not nosy. However, the neighbors on my street do keep a keen watch on the goings on so I always feel safe where we are... kind of an unofficial neighborhood watch.

But how did they film a neighborhood that doesn't exist? That's cool that you can see the Twin Towers in the background... oh, but they don't exist, either.

we've lived in Harsimus Cove for 6 years, and it is a quiet neighborhood (mostly residential) but quite safe.
I am HCDO rep for part of the area, and I served for 3 years as the Harsimus Cove Association president.

I've never felt uncomfortable in Harsimus Cove. And don't worry about the homeless folks, they stick to themselves. Sure, there are some smash and grabs and iPhones being snatched out of the hands of the unsuspecting (at Grove PATH Plaza nonetheless), but these incidents are rare given the population.
If you want to get a better idea, come to a east district captain's meeting. They are every 4th Tuesday of the month. More information: http://www.harsimuscove.org/event/jer ... ptains-meeting/2012/06/26

Harsimus Cove only goes as far west as Coles St. On the west side of Coles to Monmouth and Brunswick is called The Village, I think.
Harsimus Cove is pretty safe, although late at night you should stay well aware of your surroundings.

Monmouth and brunswick is still safe. The real barrier is the turnpike entrance bridge....the side of Ferris high school is relatively safe and gets safer the closer you get to water near newport. The other side of the bridge, westward, starting with the projects is the ghetto...
So i would say anything east of dixon mills is safe and anything west of Ferris high school should be avoided at all costs.

Can anyone kindly give me some insight on Harsimus Cove ? It seems so quiet in the evenings with barely any foot traffic. From the look of it Jersey Ave and anything to the east looks decent, but as you get on to Coles and westward (Monmouth & Brunswick etc), it looks a little iffy... is it safe enough to walk from the PATH train say late in the night ? I am looking to move into the area... Any inputs are much appreciated on which blocks need to be avoided.
