In any case, I hope the tower design has changed. The design shown on the SLCE website is about unimaginative as a design can get. Why don't they just stack a bunch of shipping containers and paint the whole thing brown if they're just making a big rectangular building?

If this is the one I just saw - they were trying to repeat the pattern of the warehouse next door, no?

This is a city. If you want peace, quiet, and fewer people, buy a farm.

Or, buy that neighborhood - and keep it as a "rat's hole" if that is your pleasure.

Goldman Sachs: the second office tower - 50 Hudson Street - 30-story, 918,956 square feet.

The 42-story 30 Hudson Street is the tallest building in New Jersey at 781 feet.

The whole side of the Manischewitz factory on the Morgan St. side was demolished today. These guys are making quick work of this place.

A story is roughly 10 feet.

Which building is the Toll Brothers City Living project?

It's tall. About as tall as the tan Trump tower. The Goldman Sachs building is about 800 feet tall, in comparison.

I seem to recall that there was supposed to be a theater, just like the Goldman plan had called for a winter garden. Once they got approval, it seemed they tossed that idea. I just wonder what goes through the heads of planning officials - no wonder JC has not progressed further.

I thought there was supposed to be a performance theater for concerts, plays, shows, etc. Which would have been ... pretty awesome. Oh well.

Personally, I like the new rendering much better, but those towers are HUGE! I guess there's going to be a lot more foot traffic in that area. When you say "theatre" are they talking about a movie theatre or a traditional type of theatre?

I believe the rendering you are pointing to was the previous project known as Provost square; Toll bought out that project and the Manischewitz property to build one project with 3 towers, the theater, plaza, and preserved facade of the old warehouse.

Wasn't there a big debate on the height of the towers, and how Toll promised they wouldn't be more than the zoned height?

Promises promises.....you knew you'd never keep...

The Flash is a little screwy so hit the little arrow to the right to bring up the second rendering.

That's pretty impressive. I wonder what that's going to do to the property value of the buildings surrounding the square? Thanks for the link.

You are now aware that there are multiple stores that sell organic produce in downtown - two places on Newark Ave, that market in Paulus Hook, and Shoprite - which has a third of the produce section for organic and another entire aisle solely for organic products and probably others that I can't recall or don't even know about.

Whole Foods is also a 20 minute subway ride.

Congratulations on being either ignorant, stupid, whiney or all of the above. If it's just the first, then no biggie - you just didn't know, and now ya know. If you just felt like whining that there isn't a hot yoga studio, charcuterie, le pain quotidien and Whole Foods next door to you, then why the hell did you move there? lol at you.

if you think there's some great need for all the happy froo froo stuff (and I have patronized LPQ and WF, up with froo froo!), then why don't you look into opening up something of your own? CLEARLY there's a demand for it (lol again), so go make some money at it. Quite frankly, if you're decent, like Kraverie, Madame Claude's, Smith & Chang, etc. then I'll even give you some of my money!

Also I really lol'd at Quote:
Some of us can not exist on processed foods.

lmao. Yes, you can. I promise, you'll live.

I agree with you, unfortunately there are too many small minds in JC who think we have the demographics to support these types of stores. Morton Williams is the closest we will get to a WF and that store is never crowded.

Yes, there was a PathMark a C-Town and a ShopRite.

Now there is an A&P, a Morton Williams and that other off brand gourmet market in 77 Hudson / 70 Greene. We're still a few years away from a large scale big box gourmet grocery store.

The answer is the question. High end grocery stores have staff dedicated to location selection. If they thought the current income level could support their business, they would be here. The fact that they are not answers the question as to whether there are enough rich people here to support their businesses. Its not a slight. No one is sitting around saying, "oh well, Jersey City has the demographics we need to support a Whole Foods / Trader Joes / Wegmans / Amish Market, but out of spite, because we despise Jersey Cityians, we're just not going to open a store there." No, that isn't how businesses work. If they thought it would work, they would be open here.

This was the post that caused the apparent "no more rich people" comment, but in reality the "There are already plenty of 'higher income' families in JC" comment by Owlie was a statement in response to someone saying we need rich people here in order to get a Trader Joes/Whole Foods. So there was no contradictory statement at all. Owlie just mentioned that the rich are already here, thus questioning why there isn't a better food market. Glad I could clear that up.

It's a pain to always have to go outside my community to fulfill my basic needs. Some of us can not exist on processed foods. I need a place to buy various organic foods.

Sorry I missed this, but that's hilarious. thanks for the lols

It may be hilarious to you, but it is true, and many people that live here including myself feel the same way.

Its hilarious because there is a contradictory statement: on one hand, a declarative no more rich people! and then a [sad face] why aren't there more rich people businesses?
