Probably someone tossed a cigarette and set the fire imo, not someone trying to burn the place down.

That's why you are not supposed to store discarded items outside unless it is covered. Cardboard should be flattened and tied in neat bundles, garbage cans should be stored either in the basement, alleyway, or back yard, but not in front of the property. J.C. code 287-3H If the cardboard was not in sight then a someone passing by would not be tempted.

Now that's not inflammatory.

The truth is that given who he is, and that he used his "training" to put out the fire, he handily avoided a visit by his friends at the Fire Dept, which surely would have resulted in further inspections, and if it was anyone else, violations.

"I used my fire-fighting training to contain it," Healy told The Jersey Journal but declined to comment further.

And the fact that there is a firehouse across the street from the the bar probably averted a major conflagration.

Had this happened at any other establishment, with exception of the Astor, it would have been reported as a small dumpster fire.

Bar keep! Another round.

you'd have to be an insane idiot to commit some arson right there.

Police are investigating a fire that started just outside a Jersey City bar owned by the son of Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy.
Guess crime is down.
