depends on your definition of improved. He added WiFi, removed the old beer coolers letting more light in through the windows and updated the juke box but unfortunately with the closing of Music Box, he's picked up some of their former crowd.

Nope....open and still blaring the same dumb music...sorry, older, steadily drunk clientele waiting on the steps each day at 11:45am, waiting for the security shutters to be opened. It's all so sad.

So there will be a new buyer for the bar and we may see a return to loud music, drunkards and fights in a peaceful block ? Thats a shame !

Funny that you should ask as the bar and building are now for sale and if someone were to purchase it and renovate, we know that it could be so much worse (friends in Hoboken citing vomit on their front steps as a constant companion, at least on weekends, from hipster patrons of their neighbor~ bar).

Guillo's remains a drive to destination with a loyal, older, chronic alcoholic crowd demographic. In anticipation of the sale some of the regulars were hired to spruce up the place with gold paint ~ sidewalks were papered over but paint's now all over them too. It was sad and comedic at the same time ~ why didn't they just spring for a paint tarp? And gold, really?

The apartments above are pretty run down, or so another neighbor reports, and will require a serious investment to renovate. Crap falls from the roof and into our courtyard with each passing storm ~ our request to repair an oversized, roof fence (lilting at a 90 degree angle) and blowing like a weather vane was met with it's removal. The metal trim now running the length of the building's roof is next.

Best case scenario would be for the liquor license to be sold separately and the bar renovated into a retail store of some type. I know, I'm just dreamin' here.

As mentioned, the bloody, scary fights that occured 5 years ago on a semi~ regular basis, have subsided. But the crazy~ loud music is unbearable.

I think the noise and the loud music is something you'll just have to learn to live with, unfortunately. It's just bar culture. Just be thankful that the violence has subsided. I live near the Latin Lounge and I'd be happy if the noise was all I had to deal with. Fights break out routinely (especially during the summer - cause heat seems to make people crazy) and it disturbs me to no end....

There were complaints about the Laguna Lounge up in the Heights residents are at there wits end having to deal with the joint. At a recent Captain's meeting the police captain stated his hands are tied aside from issuing a few tickets the music lingers on. Also stated was the lack of manpower on the JCPD.

Yes, noticed the bar and with a neighborhood in transition, I thought the crowd would change. The homeowners here are all working professionals; the bar patrons ~ ehh, not so much.

As mentioned, the bloody, scary fights that occured 5 years ago on a semi~ regular basis, have subsided. But the crazy~ loud music is unbearable.

I've gone in on several occasions and politely requested that they turn it down, a bit, whatever. No luck.

Are there any noise ordinances that anyone's aware of? The neighbor's adjacent to me can hear the stupid jukebox all night long too.

I'm probably not inclined to call the cops regarding a noise complaint but am wondering whether there are any ordinances out there that might cover this ~ and if so, has anyone ever had success in quieting a place down?

Sidewalk and curbs are again littered with beer cans this morning. Picked up a tossed bag of McDonals's food early one morning and grabbed an upright soft drink container placed behind the rear wheel of a neighbor's car ~ only to realize that it was filled with urine.

No pun intended when I say that Guillo is being a *shitty* neighbor. But what to do about the music that's crazy~loud all night long?

That is why when a new liquor license is issued the neighborhood has imput. I presume this joint has been there prior to the current residents living in it's vicinity.

Really? I'll go there for packaged goods from time to time and always thought the place to be a pretty laid back old man's bar. I've never been there very late though, so maybe the patrons can get a bit rowdy, but that's to be expected w/ a lot of bars after 1 or 2 in the morning.

Have you gone to your Captain's meeting and monthly block association meeting yet ? Been recording the times you are aggravated by this issue ? Wrote down the case #'s of calls to the radio room operator every time you called the cops ? Have you contacted all (4) of your council persons yet and got a response from them as well ? After this was all said and done write a letter to the ABC board of J.C. and the State board as well.

I\'ve lived on Coles street near this neighborhood dive bar for 5 years or so. Purchased my place when windows were boarded up and my hand shook as I wrote the deposit check. Did a back breaking gut rehab job to bring this old house up to livable standards - love the neighbors and all is going great ~ except for the %$*&#@ bar next door.

The clientele who frequent the place are of the sad, middle age, chronic drinking variety ~ mostly driving from destinations unknown. Cars pull to the curb until 3am or so to purchase cold package goods ~ empty bottles and garbage are often deposited at the curb and the neighbors and I clean them up in the morning.

Maybe I\'ve grown accustomed to the crazy-loud fights that spill onto the pavement. Seems that many of us were speed dialing the police for gang activity a few years back and as of late, it seems to have quieted down a bit.

They\'ve probably installed a new juke box and speakers because suddenly it\'s gotten loud, really loud, from 4pm onward. I\'ve gone in and politely asked them to turn it down - and Guillo, the owner, yelled back, \"I can\'t hear you. What? What? I can\'t hear you.\" Of the four patrons seated at the bar when I went in, one turned to me and laughed, \"It\'s too God-Damn-Loud-In-Here-Right?\"

If it weren\'t so sad, it would have been funny. I can barely carry on a conversation in my place because the bar music is so loud.

My neighbor\'s asked me one morning whether I was blasting music until 3am or if it was coming from the Dive Bar a few doors down. I can\'t move, nor do I want to.

Suggestions, anyone?
