Well there's this: Two years ago, Jersey City quietly permitted four top officials to accept payments of up to half their accrued sick leave in what officials say was an attempt to keep the four administrators from retiring amid rumblings that state officials were about to curtail public benefits, The Jersey Journal has learned. and this: Of the 188 police and firefighters who left Jersey City, 31 got checks of more than $100,000, including four who received a check for more than $200,000. and this: Jersey City wants to borrow $22 million to cover payouts for unused sick, vacation and compensatory time to city workers who are retiring. The scam is big. The scandal is real. We are being focked.

And to top it off, in certain departments there is a bonus for perfect attendance. So, if you do the minimum - show up for work every day - you get paid for each of the days you didn't use AND you get a bonus tacked on!

Disagree. The intent of sick days is to not penalize people for not coming to work because they are genuinely ill. This buyback nonsense is horse****. The private sector, in general, does not recognize buybacks for unused sick days. Just ridiculous. The problem is entitlement, plain and simple.

You probably won't find this information anywhere. The original poster seems to be a troll causing trouble.
Want to solve the problem of cashing out sick days? Allow the employees to sell back a weeks worth of sick days at a rate of $0.75 to the $1, every year when they hit 8 years employment and have accumulated a certain # of days. It is win-win for everyone. Quote:

Comey is a glutton. I am not surprised that he's piggishly hoarding sick days to such an extent. He is a daily embarrassment to our city.

Use them or lose them! What is so freaking hard about that?
The whole Jersey City government needs to be fired and new people hired to clean house. They're almost all corrupt thieves.

JCPD Police Chief Comey, Deputy Chief Nalbach, and Deputy Chief Spafora will leave JC over $1million poorer!
Each will receive nearly $500,000 when they retire for unused compensation days. Deputy Chief Nalbach even had the nerve to say, when he retires, Jersey City will have to give him Paulus Hook! And of course Comey will just go back to his day job of running his private security company. This is the police force protecting us?!?!
