Yup, for basic mobility and enjoying all Hoboken & JC have to offer you can't beat the bike, however unfriendly the streets may seem. You'll think nothing of popping down to Sinatra Park for concerts, or down to Liberty State Park to enjoy the breeze & views along the walkway. And since you're not getting to work that way you can avoid the bad weather.

Advice: get a rack with a big basket or bolt on a milk crate, you can bring home a ridiculous amount of stuff in a milk crate. I was once at BJ's and forgot I biked there instead of driving, I got a 20lb bag of cat food and a ton of other stuff home in the crate and on the handlebars!

I'd do a bike over the 87 any day.

There's a hardware store a few blocks north on Central, close to South Street I believe (a block north of the post office). There's tons of Pizzerias, Italian restaurants, Mexican, sandwich shops, etc. all along Central Ave.

For basic needs, Kennedy Center and CH Martin has a ton of stuff that may save you a trip to Target or Walmart (household items, curtain rods, etc. etc. ).

Stop and Shop should cover you for groceries, and any one of the abundant vegetable stores should cover you for fresh produce.

Now if you want to drink, Hoboken is still the place to go

those same things can be found on central, but i get it. you just want to be part of the "in", nothing wrong with that

Thanks guys for the quick feedback. Looks like I need to get a bike. My final destination is around the Hoboken area as that seem to have a lot of useful shops (sleepy's, ace hardware, and a few places to eat) :)

Walking at night, I wouldn't recommend..

On Palisades there is van services to Journal Sq.. On Central the 87/10 buses .. On Summit there is 83. On Kennedy you have the most options of buses and van service to JSQ.

Biking is the way to go. I can do Franklin and Central to the Hoboken Path in 9 minutes if I'm in a hurry.

don't think so. you could walk to ferry street which is right in front of Pershing field, i think that's the only other option you have that's close other than biking to HBK terminal.

Have you thought of biking? All downhill there, and you can take the congress st elevator back up if you're feeling lazy. That elevator to the Light Rail is only a 4/5 mi walk anyway. Or walk down Mountain Rd to the 2nd st stop, and take the Congress elevator back up if you don't feel like the uphill climb.

I'm new to the JC Heights area. I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction in terms of how to get from Central/Griffith area to the Hoboken PATH area?

I see 87 bus as an option, but it's a lot of walking and very little bus riding. Is there some sort of mini-bus system to the Hoboken PATH as there is one to Journal SQ (mini-bus off JFK)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've been pretty much walking for 2 miles!
