Went yesterday. Big-ass falafel pita for $3. Much better deal than Ibby's and better, imo. Loved the pineapple inside too, it's a nice touch.

I think having more places with outdoor seating on Newark is a definite improvement. Gypsy Grill's got it, Helen's got it, soon Barcade... Maybe there won't be any place left for the n'er do wells to hang out if we fill the sidewalk with tables and diners.

I had the falafel sandwich for dinner last night. I thought it was very good, filling, and cheap. It looked fresh and healthy. The place looks refreshing and clean. I would go back.

The guys were very nice and excited to have the business/serve the customers. Hopefully they dont turn all self rightous like some other establishments that made it downtown.

I ate dinner at Gypsy Grill on Friday. My impression is that it has the feel of a late night type of place in Manhattan - kind of hectic and disorganized, but decent food.

They are open until 2am on weekends, so that's a good thing. They'll definitely get good business from Barcade patrons.

The chicken shawarma over rice was served up in a rectangular tupperware platter, and the food was very similar to a halal cart that you'd find in Manhattan. Fresher ... but a similar taste and serving style. It was decent for sure, but not mind blowing.

I found the falafel to be excellent!

Ibby's has a more authentic flavor, so I'll remain loyal to them. But Gypsy Grill will definitely be getting some of my business after midnight!

Had the falafel sandwich; the pita is a little too thick and white bread like. Ibby's is definitely better.

A great addition to Newark Ave. and the downtown neighborhood. Slick looking store, self order, middle eastern fast food. Beef,Chicken or Veggie Kabobs sandwiches or platters, felafel, stuffed grape leaves, shwarma and more. Interesting non-alcoholic drinks. Desserts.

Good tasting food. Ate there 2x. I recommend.

Any chance they'll be open late night, especially now that nearby Barcade is open?

I have so far had the chicken shwarma (tasty, but i found it very "tendon-y". yuck), bbq chicken over rice (pretty good esp the rice) and the falafel sandwich (not the best i've had, but not bad).

Overall, I found things to be ok, not great....but affordable. location's good (for me anyway).

a falafel sandwich is pretty filling and the fact that you can get 2 for 6 bucks and change, well...you can't beat that w/ a stick. hope they stick around for a while...

i was walking by yesterday and the door was open so i took a peek inside and grabbed a menu.

the guy working on the space said they plan on opening in about two weeks.

prices seem reasonable, ranging from 2.99 to 4.99 for sandwiches. 5.99 for the lunch box and 6.99 for dinner specials...

I was also pleased to see a nice looking storefront/signage on Newark Ave last night. It's going to happen over time. Although Newark Ave is in desparate need of trees. It looks very barren without them.

I think we can expect a couple of new businesses along Newark Ave, actually. There is a building next to, or near, Sawadee that is being remodeled. A couple other places are under renovation. It's a real shame that Milano Furniture is going to be boring offices though - ugh!

I heard it was going to be salads, falafal and, like you mentioned, Mid East fare.

Anybody knows anything about the Gypsy Grill near Newark/Jersey and when they will open? Looks like they will be serving middle eastern food. Definitely looks nice from the outside. I glad to see the storefronts getting a nice make over one by one.
