Screw WNYC/NPR. They have a few saving graces, like Radio Lab and This American Life, and so far as either don't try to stray into politics are great, but you can get those as a podcast.

I've come to find that the only real source of unbiased American news is the BBC. I wish they'd shut down NPR and replace it with the BBC World Service.

I love WNYC, you can't go wrong with Lenny Lopet, Radio Lab, BBC World News, Brian Lehrer, This American Life, Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, Terri Gross, Talk Of The Nation (when Ray Suarez was on before jackhole killed it), Morning Edition, etc. Consistently rated the most factually correct reporting.

Agreed. I do suspect that WNYC is relatively flush with cash. I love WBAI... great station to support financially.

I am a huge fan and supporter of public radio and would hate to see anything reduce its presence. However, WNYC is a bad example to hold up with regard to funding needs. There are thousands of stations that literally limp from year to year on what they manage to raise from their pledge drives. WNYC is not one of them, evident by the recent move into rather posh new headquarters at a cost of $61 million.

Personally, I give my money to WBAI and several smaller NPR/PRI/Pacifica affiliates.

I listen to WNYC every day; I get great reception on 93.9 FM. WNYC recently bought longtime classical music station WQXR, which is 105.9 FM. I listen to many many many hours of both stations a week.

Shows like the Brian Lehrer show (10 a.m., M-F), cover Jersey City not infrequently.

I listen to WNYC but federal money only covers somethng like 1% of the NPR budget. It's pretty much nothing so I'm not sure why losing 1% would impact them that much. If they can fully quantify what they'd be losing, then I'd be more apt to be supportive.

I urge you to oppose any efforts to cut or eliminate funding for public
broadcasting.

My local public television and radio stations are critically important to
me and to the 170 million Americans who access public broadcasting
services each month. The small cost per person - annually $1.35 per
citizen - is far outweighed by the benefits we all get from having a
strong public broadcasting system to address our local community needs and
provide services unmet elsewhere.

Public broadcasting is one of the most successful public/private
partnerships in America, with $6 in local support matching every $1
invested by the federal government. Cutting off federal dollars would have
a cascade effect that would be catastrophic to the millions of people like
me who use public broadcasting every day.

There are more than 1,000 local public television and radio stations in
America, representing some of the last locally-owned, locally-staffed and
locally-programmed media outlets in this country. These stations are in
every community across the country and employ some 21,000 people.

Public broadcasting is an essential service to the American people, not
a luxury as some contend. Without public broadcasting, our
communities would lose access to the safe-haven of children's
non-commercial educational content, the in-depth news and public affairs
programming, access to the world of arts and cultural locally, nationally
and internationally, and the local voice that weaves the diverse
perspectives of our communities together.

In addition to the unparalleled programming offered by local public
broadcasters, local stations are maximizing digital technology and their
universal reach to provide critical resources to local communities. For
example, public radio stations provide reading services for the blind,
public television stations partner with state and local departments of
education to provide teachers with on-line educational resources aligned
with state standards, and both television and radio stations provide
critical and targeted emergency communications in the wake of a disaster.
Without federal funding, these critical resources will disappear,
disenfranchising millions of Americans who depend on these services.

The minimal federal investment in public broadcasting stations ensures
free and universal access to a wide array of high quality, educational,
non-commercial content and services. These services are too valuable to
lose.

As a constituent who highly values the programming and services of my
local public broadcasters, I urge you to oppose any efforts to cut funding
for public broadcasting.

Within days, Congress will vote on legislation that could cut 100% of funding for public broadcasting, which includes $3 million to fund programming operations for New York Public Radio (WNYC and WQXR), plus an additional $1.25 million for innovative, original programming. These proposed cuts threaten WNYC and public broadcasting as a whole.

170 million Americans rely on public radio and public television for trusted news and perspective and programming that brings the arts to everyone ? for a minimal investment of $1.35 per U.S. citizen per year.
