The location is not anywhere near a residence, so i fail to see why they would fail to be allowed to apply for a permit.

If they become a public nuisance because of it (traffic, crime, etc), then they should lose it.

You've obviously never lived near a bar/dance club. Evening street/transit noise is nothing compared to crappy house music.

This. The train is underground and you can't hear it at all. Traffic is background noise and the street is practically empty after 8pm.

The music was so loud when they had outdoor entertainment that I literally couldn't turn up my TV enough to hear it over the music.

Like I said. Indoors is fine, do what you want. Outside music would be fine as well, but not until 1 am and not at a volume that makes conversation a block away difficult.

Nope - just someone who had more than a few bad meals and lousy service at Hard Grove. Sorry, but I gave you guys several chances under the current owner. Each time, the dining experience was miserable. The food sucked and the service was even worse. Good luck with the license - I don't care either way as I don't intend to be a customer in the future and I no longer live near there. I'll be spending my hard-earned dollars at La Conguita if I ever get a hankering for Cuban, or at Margon in the city.

It's the same deal with Shadman a few block down. Good, cheap food, but the place looks like a dump as well.

Rosie, it's way too early to be drinking.

Actually, it's almost 5:00. I should be drinking.

+1 to La Conquita. The food and service is so much better. Skip Hard Grove and leave it for the fools who don't know better.

Nothing to do with my faint heart. I was just responding to tommyc's not understanding why Sava struggles. I would contend that if they paid a little attention to how their business is perceived, ie spending a couple bucks on a sign and doing something with the interior, they would do much better.

Take two places serving the exact same food. Let me know who does better, the place that looks like Sava or one that looks like your garden variety cheap eats place (a la Grand Sichuan).

Forget about Sava. Not relevant here. I just changed the subject line of this thread to "Re: Hard Grove wants an Entertainment and Dance License: help petition for it".

That's all I have to say, other than I am not an employee, owner or any other kind of shill for the Hard Grove. I think I've only been there a couple of times.

Both abysmal. It's truly amazing that they have stayed in business all these years, while favorites like Sava struggle, and great places like Ox close. What is Hard Grove doing right? Perplexing!

Ox struggled becasue it took them forever to open (thanks JC BD) and were never able to dig out of the hole.

Sava is hardly a favorite, the place is a dump and an eyesore on that block. My wife is Polish so we are forced to shop their occasionally (now that Europa is closed), but the place is a mess.

Got me. I can only guess that it's location, location, location. There must be a certain hard core of people out there who are simply too lazy and/or ignorant to wander more than a block from the PATH for much better food. That and the fact that their taste buds must be completely dead.

I just pretend I'm on island time.
I bet it would be a great case study for a sociologist.

agreed, i never rated hard grove highly in either department, especially with la conguita just 2 blocks away. however, if they have music and dancing, it would be a welcome addition, regardless of how crappy their lechon is

Their food is ok, but I'm too tired of their service to ever go back. I came in on a Tuesday night in the summer while it was dead. There were 3 waitresses leaning against the bar, I stood by the door said I wanted an outside table, one of them said they'll be right there to give us menus. 15 minutes later I looked in to see them still leaning against the bar and waived goodbye to them while they asked why I was leaving. Then got delicious food at wild fusion in a matter of minutes.
