I've always dreamed of a minor league affiliate in downtown JC. I even thought the location below would be a stellar location, with a lite rail stop on the corner, with the stadium positioned to face downtown NYC and the Statue Of Liberty. And I think it could fit a small stadium.
Obviously it's not going to happen for many reasons (land acquisition, territorial rights, market saturation, cost, etc), but if anyone with about 5-10 million dollars to burn is thinking about it, it might be worth thinking about!

Your personal enjoyment aside, Tommy is right - the Bears don't draw well. I've been to a half-dozen games and there haven't been more than several hundred people there. Others I know who go more often say the same thing. How cool would it be to not only have a team playing on the waterfront in a 10,000 to 15,000 seat stadium but also have that venue for concerts???

Don?t write off the Newark Bears?. We have been going to games at Riverfront Stadium for years. It is an easy drive from JC. Cheap tickets, good beer and great fireworks in a beautiful stadium. It really is a good time..yes in the heart of Newark! We NEVER feel unsafe there. (how could we ..after all we live in JC!!!) JC home boy Willie Banks is a pitcher on the team. Check it out? http://www.newarkbears.com/ PS ? you yuppies/hipsters do keep me amused with your JC pipe dreams! One more thing I bet if you guys were around in mass in the early 80?s you maybe could have put a stop to the city ripping down Roosevelt Stadium. That was a beautiful stadium in its day!

Yeah, but whats the lure of the independent. The A, AA, and AAA teams have a lure of seeing the stars of tomorrow.
The Newark Bears has who? Mostly guys whose careers have truely went out to pasture.

True but staten island is not as accessable as JC via public transportation. I'm not implying with need a AAA or AA, but a relocation of the Newark Bears which I believe is in the independent league would make complete sense to me. Again, I don't think it would happen but it would be cool if it did.

Tommy my brother- They already got the Staten Island Yankees and Staten Island is basically an extension of Bayonne. You can see the whole NYC skyline in the outfield. You should check it out. I had a blast last time I went.

The Cyclones are the High-A Affiliate of the Mets. Would MLB want another professional baseball team in the area is the question?

I've thought the same but I don't think it would happen. LHN definitely has space for it. The RV parking near the sandbar area is huge and that is accessable via path, lightrail and ferry from the city. I agree that I think it would draw well with restaurants and bars blocks away to get residual business. If the Brooklyn Cyclones can be successful in Coney Island, I think JC would work as well. Wishful thinking!!!

I was thinking Liberty Harbor. Not sure if there's enough room there anymore. I actually think that a minor league team would draw well, or at least better than Newark draws.

Well yeah but the Newark Bears aren't a real minor league team. They're an independent league team.
You could put the stadium anywhere if we could get a real minor league team and it'd be a great way to rejuvenate an area of Jersey City. Plenty of abandoned areas. Though which team would want their system here? If the Phillies showed up I would burn the place to the ground.

I've always wanted this on the water front. As a matter of fact I'd take a ball field over 90% of the crap they built Downtown. They should have put it where Liberty Harbor is.

Just a thought. I've heard that the Newark Bears don't generate much interest and do not get large crowds for games. So with that in mind I have been thinking, how do you think a minor league baseball team would do in JC?
Now I know there is not much room to put a baseball stadium ANYWHERE in JC, let alone in a desirable/convenient location in JC, but it's kind of neat to think of how cool a 15,000-seat stadium would look on or near the JC waterfront with views of NYC, JC, and Statue of Liberty. Somewhere between Jersey City and Hoboken would actually be a pretty cool place - walkable from JC and Hoboken. Just kind of a random pipe dream I suppose, from a big fan of the game of baseball. Thoughts?
