Amazing baked goods at MWL right now. After debating between the chocolate bread pudding and the apple cheddar scone, I finally polished off one of Celeste's homemade croissants, filled with Nutella.

thanks, celeste, for yet another fabulous communal dinner this past thursday. i know i won't do the menu justice by ticking it off from memory, but a few of the highlights:

-warm fougasse bread with spinach-roasted garlic spread
-shiitake mushroom soup
-a veggie moussaka-type thing
-salad with beets and goat cheese
-probably the best pumpkin pie i've ever had--i'm generally not a fan, but the crust made this one.

oh, and apparently jersey wines and spirits donated the wine that was at every table. all and all, i winner of a night. can't wait to hear what's coming in november--celeste said maybe pizza or pasta.

Ha--I was just about to post about tonight. I think this was one of the best yet. And that berry shortcake with fresh whipped cream. Still debating whether to return for the same dinner next Thursday night. I wonder if she even has room.

Love these dinners--thanks, Celeste.

Had a wonderful meal at the communal dinner tonight...Gazpacho, chicken with roasted vegetables, salad with watermelon, and fruit tart for dessert. The theme was "farm to table." Thank you for a delicious meal, Celeste!

It seems that these prices are priced so that if only a handful of customers show the overhead would still pay for itself. I could justify the cost if the portions would suffice to satisfy your appetite but it does not. I had paid $1.35 for a cookie at a rival business but one was satisfying in taste as well as filling. As long as there is a minimal following prices will stay the same.

I happened to stop by the booth they had at LHS on the weekend and saw this phenomenal chocolate walnut cookie... I almost purchased it but then saw that it was 5. yes 5.00 dollars... I mean it wasn't a small cookie, but I couldnt justify a 5.00 dollar cookie no matter how friggen good it looked ( I still dream about it)

If you happen to be near Hamilton Park right now (Saturday 3:45 pm) and have a hankering for lemonade, a cookie, a scone, or other baked good, Made With Love has a table set up at the 9th St. entrance.

I just passed by and bought a scone. They said they'd been out there for about 20 minutes.

LOVED the communal dinner. my husband and i have gone every month since they began last fall. each one has been delicious (tilapia and some sort of roasted garlic spread were the highlights....oh, and the homemade chocolates at the end), and we always wind up meeting some fascinating new person.

keep up the good work, celeste!

Sweetie, aka Celeste, PLEASE say you will reinstate grab-n-go dinners should demand pick up again?

Your food is so delicious and satisfying, I can't imagine it would not be a big seller. Maybe it's just a little spring fever pulling grab-n-go customers away.

Say you'll reconsider at some point?

Am I jumping the gun to assume you would take catering requests? "Grab-n-go on demand" - how does that sound? What kind of notice would you need?

Hey All,
I have been a lurker for a while here, but decided to sign up today to give some love to Made With Love!
My wife and I had some family in town last night and, since we have a 4 week old baby, we didn't really want to cook for eight people. We decided to give Made With Love a shot, because we try to eat organic food as often as possible, but also because of all the positive comments on JCList.
Man, did "sweetie" come through for us! Two perfectly cooked chickens with fantastic roasted sweet potatoes and sauteed spinach on the side....and don't forget the fantastic apple pie as well!
Was it a little pricey? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely!!! I am firm believer in "you get what you pay for", and frankly I am willing to pay for fresh, healthy food cooked to perfection!
Don't want to get too verbose, so I will sign off for now, but I am sure I will be posting regarding other JC related stuff soon!

MoseyCity

PS - I am a functional illiterate when it comes to posting on these kind of boards, so if I am doing something incorrectly, or out of protocol, please let me know...

The cookies at MWL are no more than $2 unless you get the huge ass gargantuan cookie which is $4.50. but if you are eating that yourself you have bigger problems.

A large coffee is no more than $3 here, so you must've also gotten an espresso-based beverage. Those are expensive no matter where you go. Coffee is an expensive commodity. But what you're paying for at that price is the cost of milk, and the cost of maintaining an espresso machine. I don't know how serious coffee is handled at MWL but if you forego the coffee and make yourself a delicious cup at home I'd say you just got a delicious $2 cookie, totally worth it.

Seriously, the prices of baked goods at this place are pretty much exactly the same as you would find in any good-quality bakery in New York. And if we're comparing MWL to Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, or Subway prices, we're just not on the same page. Even if I don't get a treat from MWL every week (or even every month), I'm still glad it's here.

There are lots of businesses and products that are overpriced (see link below) at least you are not forced to make a purchase such as rent or taxes. If she is charging that much it is either for pure profit or the overhead costs. When the bakery sees that sales are down or non-existent then the owner will have to change her ways of pricing or regret even starting the business in the first place. Perhaps there will be a surge of higher income residents in the area or others that are willing to travel to said bakery if so good for her. Just because you live in close proximity doesn't mean that it's your bakery go elsewhere.

I really love this place, and the owner is probably one of the sweetest people you'll meet here in Jersey City...but I have to say, 7 bucks for a cookie and a coffee? Come on!!!
