I wouldn't call the Katyn massacre statue ugly. It is a bit jarring to the senses, though, and a harsh welcome to those coming off the PATH.
I appreciate the historical relevance of the monument, but it just seems out of place where it is. I would prefer it be moved to Liberty State Park or somewhere and a more aesthetically pleasing structure put in Exchange Place.

I love that statue! I wish I could put it on my front lawn (if a lawn existed in JC).

I like the russian 9-11 monument. It's a shame where they hid it.

Pretty much all of those are better than the Polish statue down at Exchange Place.

The World?s Ugliest Statues When bad art and bad politics meet. foreignpolicy.com JOSHUA KEATING | APRIL 5, 2010 The Jersey teardrop: Tsereteli's efforts to export his vision to the United States have been less successful. A massive statue of Christopher Columbus was rejected by five American cities before being shipped to Puerto Rico, where it still sits unassembled. In 2004, Tsereteli built a 10-story monument to the victims of the September 11 attacks, consisting of a titanium teardrop encased in bronze that continually drips water. The structure, intended as a gift from Russia to the United States, was at first gratefully accepted by the local government of Jersey City, but then rejected once city officials actually saw it. It was eventually unveiled in nearby Bayonne, and widely panned by locals, with one 9/11 survivor describing it as "'a cross between a scar and a female sexual organ." http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles ... _s_ugliest_statues?page=0,4 ================= aqlso see... The Ugliest Statue in Seattle By Caleb Hannan, Wednesday, Apr. 7 2010 Genghis Khan rides again: one of the world's 10 ugliest. Inspired by a recently completed, 160-foot Senegalese monument, Foreign Policy decided to countdown The World's 10 Ugliest Statues. As you might imagine, the list is dominated by Soviet-era, propagandistic monoliths. Hell, even America's one entry on the list -- a 9/11 monument so ugly it was actually regifted by Jersey City -- comes from a Russian-born artist. Beauty is in the eye of the youknowtherest. And one person's eyesore is someone else's masterpiece. But that doesn't mean the U.S. doesn't have its fair share of fugly art.
