It?s sad to hear some riders were assaulted, but I find it hard to summon any sympathy for the owners or least of all the drivers of those damnable busses. This story represents one crime perpetrated against this one bus, but each and every day these busses, scores of them all over the city, every hour of every day, are causing mayhem on the streets, All our safety is compromised by their consistent and systematic disregard for traffic laws and pedestrian safety.

The buses on Kennedy don't drive like that the ones on Palisade ave that go from Newport to the GW Bridge Terminal do. This is one of the buses that goes from JSQ to NY Port Authority

I hope this turns out to be some sort of personal "beef" between the driver and the perpetrators; and my heart goes out to the rider.

But the jitney services are thriving because they fill a need, that NJ Transit buses completely fail to do. I have never had a bad experience on a jitney, and appreciate actually being able to get downtown or to the mall on weekends without a long wait. And as they are on the lookout for riders, they are NOWHERE near as much of a menace as cars with their drivers running red lights, speeding, yacking on cell phones, etc.

Getting robbed is equal payment for being a lousy driver... that is probably why they robbed the bus driver- payback! We should give these "heroes a medal for putting that bus driver in her place. The only bad drivers in JC are the bus drivers... JerseyCityFrankie you have the guts to say what we all want to but don't.

Police: Five assail jitney bus in Jersey City, rob driver

Monday, February 01, 2010
By CHARLES HACK
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Jersey City cops nabbed three suspects after they allegedly robbed a North Bergen jitney driver and attacked a Jersey City passenger Saturday night, police reports said.

William Schiattman, 21, of Avenue A in Bayonne, and Manuel Vargas, 43, and his son, also Manuel Vargas, 21, both of Gray Street in Jersey City, were charged with robbery and aggravated assault, Police Lt. Edgar Martinez said.

Responding to a call about a fight on a jitney bus at 8:21 p.m., cops found a small crowd outside the bus at Spruce Street and Kennedy Boulevard, reports said.

A 21-year-old man who lives in Jersey City had a gash on his head and told cops he was riding in the bus when it stopped to let off passengers, reports said.

At that point, a blue SUV drove up and several people jumped out of the vehicle. A woman got on the bus and pulled the female bus driver off the bus, while a man sat down in a seat, the injured man told cops, reports said.

When the victim got up to ask them what they were doing, the group punched him in the face and body, reports said.

After grabbing the driver's purse that contained $200 cash and papers, the five assailants - two women and three men - drove off, reports said.

Police searched the area and found the three men, reports said. The women robbers got away.
