It's usually $9, sometimes $8. I've done that ride often.

I think I was charged $10 last week from Hoboken to Grove St. and 1st.

Speaking about the Jersey City cabs, I jumped in one a few weeks ago when it was raining and the guy was refusing to run the meter and wanted to charge me $10 for a $6 (TOPS) metered cab ride. Anyway, long story short I literally had to threaten the guy-by saying I would report him- to charge me $7. When riding in a JC taxi don't believe that "meter is broken" crap.

The price always varies. If I am in the mood to bargain I have gotten the cabbie down to $7 but if I don?t feel like arguing with them they usually charge $10 or $11.

But I am pretty sure there is a set rate they are legally required to follow. I once had a cab driver show me a laminated sheet they use but I find now they just pause for a moment before telling me varying rates.

Hoboken taxis often don't use the meter, which is an invite to a ripoff. Get a price ahead of time or have them use the meter. Jersey City cabs are required to use a meter (at least according to the sticker in the back of them) and none of the ones I've used at the Grove St. stand don't use them.

I was charged $11 today for shared cab ride from Hoboken PATH train to Hamilton Square Park. When I told him that seems expensive he asked what I am normally charged and that he'd take that. Do they always try to rip you off? How do I make sure I know what the proper fixed rate should be instead of the whim of the cab driver trying to rip me off? It seems like it's different everytime.
