Good for you! I've done this 4 times and had a knife pulled on me once. I am happy to brag about putting 7 perps in jail. It is amazing how stupid and very unaware criminals can be. One guy I put away twice.

Great job, there are several cars that won't be broken into tonight because of you. I just happened to have my police radio on at the time and heard the call & grab. Doesn't happen like that often.

Hope you cleaned your feet good.

Awesome story and good for you! The no shoes thing was kind of gross, but I think it was very brave of you. The guy sounds like a nutjob so I am glad he is off the streets and you got your GPS back.

Good Job. I think you handled the situation very well, except for the fact that you didnt have any shoes on. Way maintain your composure.

I wouldve taken a wrench to the back of the guys head. I know it's not the smartest idea but I believe an eye for two eyes.

The first dispatcher actually got off the phone with me even though I asked to stay on until the police came. After like 2-3 minutes I got nervous and called back. The 2nd dispatcher stayed on the phone with me and that's how they tracked him on the bus. I relayed the plates to the dispatcher. I would have liked the police to have arrived more quickly because he ended up approaching me, but overall they did a great job, and were very frienddly. More than anything I thought it was exciting, and kind of funny. That's why I shared it. I also heard from the police that there were a string of car break-ins in that area and hopefully that was the guy.

1. You are super brave. And clearly calm under pressure.

2. I am glad the cops were friendly. They should have been, since you basically did most of the work.

3. The scariest part of the story to me is that you were out there fighting crime all barefoot. Gross.

4. GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!

It's a great story. Something that everyone who has been burglarized has wished they could have done. Great work.

So even though car alarms go off all the time I would look each and every time it did, as it turned out to be your own car. Alarms should have personal sounds like cell phones do. Are you a male or female? Brave for a male and crazy for a female to approach this situation and especially with no shoes on. If you had a pet feline would this culprit be known as the cat burglar? I am happy for your concern there should be more citizens like yourself. Thank you.

Nice job! However, beware of people jumping on you for "bragging about what you did". I prevented a stranger from getting into his car and driving drunk, posted an account of the episode on this board, and was chastised by some people for "bragging" about my act. LOL, some people.

wow, you're very lucky you were around to hear your car alarm!

how long did it take the police to respond? did they wait for him to get on the bus so he couldn't get away easily?

Funny story to share with you....

Yesterday around 3pm I had just arrived home from being out of town, and was about to jump in the shower when I heard my car alarm sounding. Car alarms go off pretty often on 4th street whether it be from blasting music or whatever else, but for whatever reason this time I looked out to my window and saw a man inside my car and rummaging through my belongings. I quickly threw on some clothes, and dialed 911 because I didn't want to confront the guy. I watched him get out of the car with a bag in his hand, and I slipped out my home without him seeing me, and I followed his aloof ass down monmouth, stood 20 feet away from him as he sat on a stoop in front of Barge Inn, down to Newark and watched him cross over to Steve Fulop's office, sit on that stoop, saw him eye up construction equipment being used in front of the building, then watched him hand a tool to the man working on a ladder (so strange), then he walked down Newark some more, until he observed me following him, I think because I was everywhere he was, was talking with the police the whole time, and I had no shoes on! haha! So he walked towards me, and said "What the F*%# are you doing with no shoes on, man." I avoided him, wandered into that barber shop there for a moment in case he went after me, and then he went on to try and catch one of those Jitney's...which he did as the police showed up. The Police pulled over the Jitney 2 blocks away, I identified the guy, they cuffed him, and found my Garmin GPS! He dug it out of my glove box. We went back took pictures, and went to the station and charged him etc. Anyways, as street smart as I am, I trusted my car alarm and lock a little too much. I won't leave my GPS in there anymore....and mind you...it was hidden and out of plain sight. The car was still broken into. He had some kind of tool.

He was visibly strung out by the way. Anyways, hopefully i prevented someone else's car from being broken into.
