That park on Wayne has been a problem for years, although I think this past year seemed to be quiter than others.
It took a shooting for someone to finally notice?

This is great news. Good luck with this endeavor. I don't live in the area, but visit one of jersey City's treasures, the Barrow Mansion from time to time on Wayne Street.

I don't know but I'm guessing that this group is organizing specifically to deal with the hot spot of Wayne btw Barrow/Jersey (judging from the streets listed).

If you're really concerned about Crime and Neighborhood safety then come to the meeting regardless. It sounds like the Downtown Crime Watch will be there and they DO cover the entire of VVP and Harsimus Cove. And attend the Downtown Watch meetings once a month. Check the jclist calendar for dates.

I don't know the organizers, but I have to imagine if you're interested in helping, you can just show up. They'd be silly to turn away more help.

And Wayne between Brunswick and Varick was excluded (some of us on those blocks don't live in Dixon Mills). Actually, I think those blocks are no-man's-land as far as neighborhood associations go (at least not VVP, not Village).

There was a flyer on my doorstep this afternoon when I got home.

I agree, Columbus should definitely be included in this watch.

beautiful night for an outdoor meeting. perhaps in Ramos Park?
I trust JCList isn't your only method of getting the word out. Someone surely has handed out fliers or something at/near the park, right?

Wayne Street Watch

Dear Neighbors,

In light of the recent shooting and other criminal activity on our street many of your neighbors have decided to join together and form a Block Watch. It is only through a group effort that we will increase awareness on the part of the police and the City. We are strength in NUMBERS and need all residents to join together to do our part to finally clean up Wayne Street. Please join us for our first meeting where you will have the opportunity to meet your neighbors and learn more about the Wayne Street Watch. We will be joined by members of the Downtown JC Watch who will talk to us about implementing the block watch/phone tree. We will also provide follow up to some of the other solutions that were explored at the September 22nd Captain?s meeting.

WHEN: Tuesday, October 6th, 2009
7:00 pm

WHERE: Barrow Mansion

WHO: Residents of
Wayne Street (Varick to Grove)
Barrow Street (Mercer to Columbus)
