Hey mfadam, this is an expensive, well-connected corporate firm, and their pricing is NOT competitive. The best we can hope for as taxpayers is that they will perform an audit that's worth the $. It's virtually impossible that neither the firm or the attorney doing the audit did not give $ to Healy or the HCDO. The actual guy the city is hiring (Thomas P. Scrivo) represents other towns, too. www.mdmc-law.com/attorney_detail.asp?EmpId=317. www.mdmlaw.com/Ethics_Scrivo.pdf As somebody else said above, if the audit does not include all JC's autonomous bodies and authorities, it's window dressing at best.

How can this law firm represent city interests and individual city employees' interests? It makes no sense. This means that if a city employee says he/she has accepted bribes (or "gifts" as I am sure Vega and Healy would describe them), the firm cannot report this, because it would be privileged. This means that if a city employee says that he/she does things at the Mayor's direction, even if it runs in contravention to the best interests of the city, the firm cannot report this because it is privileged. This exercise is a complete waste of time and a transparent political move to somehow make it look like everything's legitimate. And I am sure that the mandatory ethics training would have stopped Healy's cronies from accepting envelopes full of cash on his behalf. Healy and his cronies are pure scum (that's not hyperbole--that's fact).

what a joke - who chose this law firm? How do we know if their pricing is competitive or if they are Team Healy friendly? Given that Healy is involved with all abatements seems to me he knows exactly how the development process works.
This is a classic waste of taxpayer money that will yield nothing other than a minor tweak or two so the cronies in power can tell us how they've "fixed" the issues...

Fully transparent? This from the man who ordered the new tax assessment team be exempt from all sunshine laws and meet in private. Please.

Jersey City mayor to seek audit of building process
Sunday, August 09, 2009 David Giambusso STAR-LEDGER STAFF In the wake of an FBI corruption sting that has shaken the state's political landscape, Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy will call tomorrow for an independent audit of the city's development process, according to Jersey City officials. "In light of the events of July 23, 2009, we believe it is prudent to undertake a legal audit and analysis of our development process in order to verify that it is fully transparent, fair and efficient," Healy said in a statement expected to be released. The city will retain the law firm of McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter LLP, to examine documents and legislation, and interview city employees in an "attorney-client privileged setting," according to officials. The analysis is expected to last 90 days after which the firm will provide the city with a report of its findings and recommendations. Healy also is expected to sign an executive order requiring all city directors and employees involved in development to undergo mandatory ethics training within the next month. Calling the city's record of redevelopment "unparalleled throughout the state and country," Healy said the audit aims to ensure that the development process is "uniform and equitable and to restore the public trust." Jersey City has seen one of the most dramatic redevelopment processes of any American city in recent years, attracting an influx of businesses, young professionals and families. Planning director Bob Cotter who has overseen much of that redevelopment said yesterday he was eager for the audit to both dispel any suspicion from the development process as well as to provide constructive criticism for the future. "Anything that will clear the air is welcome," Cotter said yesterday. "I'm very proud of the work that we do, and my staff are extremely professional." According to Cotter, in the last 25 years, Jersey City has built 18 million square feet of office space, 20,000 waterfront housing units and 5,000 affordable housing units.
