They aren't bats. They are Jersey City moths spawned from the PPG pollution.

From the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife website:
Nine species of bats are considered regular residents of New Jersey. These include the little brown bat, big brown bat, northern long-eared bat, small-footed myotis, Eastern pipistrel, Indiana bat (state and federally endangered), hoary bat, red bat and silver-haired bat. The hoary, red and silver-haired bats are part-time residents that are found here from spring through fall when they migrate to southern states for the winter. The other six species remain here throughout the entire year and require special habitats for winter hibernation.

- Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Bats are great. They eat their weight in insects each night.

Bats by the Embankment

I just moved to JC, live on 5th street. My deck faces the embankment. Every evening that I have been out there (should the weather permit), around sunset, bats come out and fly low over the trees, chirping and flyin (eating too I'm sure). I am not used to seeing this and I am fascinated by the little guys. Anyway, I've been trying to find out what kind they are. They have a very unique silhoutte while in flight, not like most bats I have seen. They have a swooped , smooth, rounded wing shape, and glide most of the time. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about them and could shed some light on these cool little guys.
