Oh I see. I misunderstood. I thought someone was saying it was in the journal.
I saw what was going on that night, and I checked the papers myself, and on jclist and I found nothing until i saw this thread a couple days after the fact. There certainly were enough cops there to think something pretty bad had happened.

Can someone post the link to the Jersey Journal story? I cannot find it.
Anyhow, I happened to encounter the several police cars at the store that night. Could it be that there is more to the story than an armed robbery? Has anyone ever shopped at that store? I don't want to pass any judgment, but let's just say that I think that place was a little bit "different." In other words, I am not really surprised....no matter what neighborhood it is in.

Much of what happens goes unreported and it's not a stretch to believe requests are made to "sit on a story". The story in last Saturday's Journal about a possible heir to the present Police Chief intimated being "political" could only help you get the job.

I was going to ask this today... I feel there is far more crime in my area then what is actually reported... do you think they (JJ) leave things out because of "friends?" Curious to hear everyones input

They are doing something about crime. They're ignoring it.

Let's stop making excuses about crime. Healy and his rubber stamp council should do something about crime.

a few months ago, i met at guy at the Van Vorst dog park who basically accused that place of being a front for al qaeda terror money. it wasn't idle chatter. it was a conspiracy theory, with footnotes.

Wherever it happned in Jersey City it would be enough to make the daily tabloid but an armed robbery just across the street from City Hall while a council meeting was going on is news. Did the Healy team squash this story?

Reported to the Jersey Journal Friday morn. Is the administration stifling this?

That place has had some crummy luck -- a car crashed into it a few months ago.

In fairness, crime spikes in summer, and in periods of economic distress. I was actually thinking it seems rather quiet compared to years past.

Any better details on which store? There are a couple that could fit that description.
The block normally feels safe at that hour, but the rain would have kept folks off the street/out of the bars.

Sucking balls has nothing to do with it. It only started about 1 week ago. Who knows why.

Uh, care to elaborate on this one? Granted I'm not a lifer, but I've lived two blocks from that area for a year and a half, and there is VERY rarely crime to speak of. GOD WHY DOES THIS SOFTWARE SUCK SUCH BALLS?!??! It takes me eight tries to get a post to submit.

The whole Grove Street area has become much less safe over the past couple of years. This is progress?

On Wednesday night, the 17th, at 11 PM, the convenience store diagonally opposite City Hall was being held up by a lone gunman who then got into a scuffle with the storeowner. This while a well attended City Council meeting was underway just yards away. The thief ran away empty handed toward Grand Street. The police came etc., the Council meeting adjourned after midnight, nothing as yet in our local paper
