This is a shrine of craftsmanship, care, service, and integrity. I can't count how many times Jimmy's skill and inspired improvisation have resurrected a pair of seemingly doomed shoes for $10. I can't praise him enough.

As a result, I won't use anyone else downtown for anything other than an easy heel replacement or to put taps on. Giovanni's is getting all of my other business.

I highly recommend Peter's on Bergen..I had a pair of italien boots polished (the tips were wearing off), an elastic replaced on a pair of shoes, a pair of shoes polished/repaired whose weaving was falling out and a pair of shoes whose bottom heels replaced...all for $36! I love the old school places with character and people with real skills...for me this was the place.

MikeyTBC, thanks for the report. Do you mind sharing details on the type of work done and how much you paid? I am also looking to have some work done on a couple of nice pairs of shoes.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up getting a few things done at Giovanni D'Italia in Newport. Fast service and quality work. They're now my go to for shoe, leather and luggage work.

giovanni is a great place, and i recommend it. they are fast and do a really good job
i would not recommend the place by the pedestrian bridge in the mall. the experience there was far from pleasant .... i had to take back the same shoe several times before they were able to glue the sole correctly.

I am not sure if this is the same place you tried in Harborside Financial Center, but I have tried Chang's on various occasions and they have done very good work, with very quick turnaround, and good prices too!
PS When I first read the thread title, I thought you were asking for recommendations on where to find good cobbler (the dessert) and was hoping to find some in JC.

I can recommend Mohammed at Bob's Shoe Repair beside the old Borinquen store between Columbus and Newark on Jersey. He takes great care with his repairs, and is sensitive to your individual needs. Also -- very good prices.

Does anyone know of a very good cobbler in JC or Hoboken? I've used the guy in Harborside, the guy on Jersey next to the old hardware store and also the guy on Grove st by the Little Sandwich shop.
All do decent work but I'm looking for more of an artisan to work on some expensive shoes. I would like to keep my $$$ here in JC and not have to go into the City. I would love to know if we have someone local up to par with b.nelson in NYC

The place on Groove near the PAth train is very good. My wife had a pair of boots re-soled on the bottom and a new zipper installed. The boots look brand new now.

I second Bob's on Jersey Ave. It's a tiny place, but he does a fast, excellent job. I go there all the time.
I went to the one on Grove once and wasn't impressed with the results.

i've use Bobs on jersey ave near newark..small lil place but i they have done a great job and for very cheap....i have my Charles David high heels soles redone ...did a good job and they are right here in JC!Quote:

Peter's on Bergen across from Hudson Catholic. They are cheap and very, very good. I just had zippers and soles/heels put on my jump boots. $65. That's cheaper than a new pair.
