For sale, 42-story high-rise development project in Journal Square, almost shovel ready

Updated: Mar. 14, 2024, 6:59 p.m.|Published: Mar. 14, 2024, 5:20 p.m.
By Mark Koosau | The Jersey Journal

Want the chance to own the site of a proposed 42-story high rise in Jersey City with sweeping views of the Manhattan skyline? It could all be yours in a bidding contest after its previous owner filed for bankruptcy on the project.

It’s the latest twist in the saga of the proposed project at 500 Summit Ave. in the Journal Square neighborhood, where after 14 years and two settlements later, a shovel has yet to be put on the ground.

Have not kept up a current list on this thread.

Funny there is so much new construction from small projects to massive ones it is hard to keep track.

Amazing.

Kushners look behind Loew’s theater for next Journal Square skyscrapers

Updated: Aug. 29, 2022, 6:16 p.m.|Published: Aug. 29, 2022, 4:33 p.m.

By Teri West | The Jersey Journal

London? Vegas? Los Angeles? No thanks, the Kushners say. We prefer Journal Square.

The New Jersey real-estate mogul family is continuing to lay out transformative plans to reshape the Jersey City neighborhood with skyscrapers.

This time, and for the first time ever, the skyscraping is headed to the western side of Kennedy Boulevard, behind the historic Loew’s Jersey Theatre. There, the KRE Group, the masterminds behind Journal Squared — the two towers (and a third under construction) that have made the neighborhood identifiable from miles away — plan to build two new towers, one 55 stories tall and the other at 49.

After more than 15 years of promises, lawsuits and false starts, work may finally begin soon on the $821 million 1 Journal Square project.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said on social media over the weekend that construction will begin at the site before the start of summer. Of course, Jersey City residents have heard this before.

The Journal Square transformation is looking up -- way up

The future vision of Journal Square is coming into focus and longtime residents may not recognize the Jersey City neighborhood when the developers are finished with it.

A 26-story tower being planned for 80 Journal Square, the site of the C. H. Martin store on Kennedy Boulevard, is the latest high-rise project to be proposed for the area, all coming together to one day create a new city skyline.

Jersey City plans to create historical museum at Apple Tree House

Updated Jul 02, 2021; Posted Jul 02, 2021 By Egan Adler | The Jersey Journal

Since the mid-1700s the Apple Tree House has held its ground in Jersey City, a reminder of the city’s Revolutionary War history, even if its own credentials are part fact and part fiction.

The 1779 meeting between the then-General George Washington and France’s Marquis de Lafayette to discuss war strategy at what is now 298 Academy St.

Rendering Released of Proposed 30-Story Journal Square Mixed-Use Tower

ByJared Kofsky - April 13, 2021

Newly released plans illustrate a company’s proposal to construct a high-rise tower at the site of a Journal Square tire and auto repair business.

A rendering from Minervini Vandermark Melia Kelly that was released by Jersey City’s municipal government shows what the mixed-use building that is being proposed for the Pep Boys premises at 2958 John F. Kennedy Boulevard and both 71 and 73 Cottage Street in Ward C could look like.

'Citizens of Jersey City are the winners?: Jersey City, Kushner moves forward with Journal Square project

Updated 3:51 PM; Today 3:51 PM (10-18-2020)
By Adrienne Romero | The Jersey Journal

After years of legal dispute, Jersey City, the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency (JCRA) and Kushner Companies have reached a settlement, dismissing further litigation.

Construction of the proposed Journal Square twin towers is now expected to begin next year and will include a 10-level parking garage for residents, a retail and amenity space, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop said on Saturday. But the one thing the project won?t have is a tax abatement.

Two 28-story towers to rise above Jersey City?s Bergen Arches: report

report.html

I have been hoping for a project like this. My wish though was to be higher density allowed in return for extending the light rail through the Bergen Arches, integrating a station(s) into the project.

There is an available unused rail right of way that could extend the line from Hoboken.

Updated 2:13 PM; Today 2:05 PM (2/23/2010)
By Ron Zeitlinger | The Jersey Journal

A developer has received approvals to build two 28-story towers above the historic Bergen Arches in Jersey City, according to a published report.

The project is being called Bergen Arch Towers, and the plans call 524 apartment units, as well as office and retail space in both towers, NewYorkYimby.com reported. The proposal also calls for a 5,900-square-foot plaza between the buildings on Hoboken Avenue just west of Central Avenue.

Uninspired and looks incredibly dated. Like something considered modern in the late 70s, early 80s. Lots of similar looking buildings from around that time all over the world. Very disappointing design, really.

Hudson County is getting a first glimpse of its future courthouse thanks to renderings of the Honorable Frank J. Guarini Justice Complex in Jersey City.

The complex, which will replace the Hudson County Administration Building as home to most of the county?s Superior Court operations, will be built on a series of now empty lots between Newark and Hoboken avenues.

Six-story, 99-unit building could go up in Journal Square

Updated Feb 14, 2020; Posted Feb 14, 2020
By Peter D?Auria | The Jersey Journal

Journal Square could soon see a new addition to the neighborhood.

Jersey City?s zoning board will meet Thursday to discuss granting variances that would allow a developer to build a six-story, 99-unit building at the northern corner of Journal Square.

The proposed building comes amid a flurry of construction in the area, where the quick commute to New York City has caused real estate prices to soar.

Federal judge tosses Kushner Companies lawsuit over $821 million One Journal Square project

Updated 1:49 PM; Today 1:36 PM (08/08/2019)
By Ron Zeitlinger | The Jersey Journal

A federal judge has dismissed an 11-count lawsuit against Jersey City by the Kushner family?s development firm over the $821 million One Journal Square project that would have brought two residential skyscrapers to the heart of the city.

The 19-page ruling, issued Wednesday, rejected the claims that the city voided the redevelopment agreement with Kushner Companies and its partner, KABR, because of ?political animus toward President Trump.? Jared Kushner, the president?s son-in-law, was CEO of the company until he stepped down to take a position in his father-in-law?s administration.

Yeah, not the greatest diner, but one of the few late night options and one of the few non-fast food options. i really hope they start throwing more decent food options into this hood.

also, hoping this isnt going to be the pharmacy with surface parking that was proposed there a couple years back. there are literally 3 pharmacies within 1/4 mile from that location.

JERSEY CITY ? The Sip Avenue site that is home to the VIP Diner, the Journal Square eatery in business for over 45 years, has been sold.

Real estate firm Holliday Fenoglio Fowler announced the sale of 175 Sip Ave. on Thursday, making public a deal that has been rumored for months. The property is a roughly half-acre lot at Sip Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard, making it prized land for a real estate developer. The Journal Square PATH station and transit hub is a short walk away.

It wasn't the best - but it was always my true-blue, late night spot. My kids and I have a lot of memories there. I'm sad.
