It?s easy to get down when you think about all the negative aspects of this city. If you go back and read the bulk of my posts you will see they are relentlessly negative. But I still see good facets of this town and I still want to live here. I deplore the current state of things in this city, but I?m trying to view them from the ?Things are going to get better? perspective. No doubt the political scandal will change the landscape in future elections. The economy will improve. Higher prices in other regions will bring new people here and invigorate the culture. The playing field has been altered. Things won?t change overnight but I think they are already slowly starting to change.

As a renter, let me try to defend this city. The things that you mentioned apply mostly to homeowners and business owners. Yes, I am aware that the insurance and property taxes factor into the high rent I pay, but still, I feel that I get better value for my money as compared to NYC. There's no city tax, and for the most part, you pay only 3.5% sales tax. Yes, JC is still more expensive than other parts of Jersey, but you do have to pay for the convenience. Path, as bad as it is, is a lot better than having to take NJ Transit to get into the city on weekends.

....and sarcasm. Maybe I just feel a little deflated and beaten down by the negative things that I'm experiencing in this city right now. Maybe my thoughts and energy spent being positive are deflating and I'm looking at other options. But I forget what a fool I am to share that on this message board. Let the insults begin.....Fire away!

not sure what it is that attracted you to this city on the first place. this is the crumbling concrete, dirty politician, high tax, shoddy workmanship capitol of New Jersey. obviously you're not getting the joke ...

by all means.. bounce... posting your gripes on this board will certainly get your voice heard by someone that can fix all the things you listed.

a) Property Tax Increase.
b) Corruption in local Jersey City government. Do you see it going away? Try dealing with the permit offices, the 'volunteer' board governing the permit offices, try the words 'selective memory'.
c) Shoddy workmanship in 'new' renovated homes, do you want to buy something here?
d) Flood zone. Insurance costs living in a flood zone.
e) Another water main break.
f) PATH trains on weekends.

I am starting to lift my white flag.....
